DNC Chair Says Voters Have Forgiven Jay Jones for Violent Texts, but Polls in Virginia AG Race Say Otherwise

Most Virginians have “accepted the apology” of state attorney general nominee Jay Jones for his disturbing, violent threats about a Republican legislator, a top Democrat is saying. However, recent polling and betting odds cast doubt on that claim.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin said in an interview published Friday in Politico that Jones’s violent texts in 2022 about killing Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert were “reckless and unacceptable.”

However, he also said that Virginia voters were forgiving.

“I believe that most Virginians have accepted that apology and that they’ll elect Jay Jones as the next attorney general,” Martin predicted.

“Jones, then a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, wrote in a 2022 text message to Republican Delegate Carrie Coyner, ‘Three people, two bullets Gilbert, hitler, and pol pot Gilbert gets two bullets to the head Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time,'” Newsweek stated.

Democrat Jay Jones Wins Virginia Attorney General Race Despite Text Scandal

Democrat Jay Jones narrowly won the Virginia Attorney General race on Tuesday night over incumbent Republican Jason Miyares, various outlets projected.

The race was called almost three hours after the polls closed in Virginia at 7 p.m., with more than 80 percent of the votes counted. The race was extremely close, with Miyares a few points shy of keeping his position. By the time NBC News called the race with 85 percent of votes counted, Jones was ahead 52 percent to 47.5 percent.

Jones’s projected victory comes after a race largely characterized by a scandal involving text messages from 2022 showing Jones fantasizing about Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his children being gunned down.

Republicans are bullish about a statewide race in Virginia this year after recent revelations the Democratic attorney general nominee sent texts wishing violence on his political adversaries.

President Donald Trump and Republicans have seized on the messages from Jay Jones, who wrote a Republican colleague about “bullets” intended for then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert. The messages, unearthed a month before the off-cycle election, have given the GOP hope that Virginia’s incumbent attorney general, Jason Miyares, could emerge victorious in what otherwise appears to be a tough bellwether year for them.

The texts, released three weeks after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, plays into Trump’s narrative that the political left increasingly courts violent extremism. And, Republicans argue, Democrats’ resistance to force Jones off the ticket only underscores that message.

Republicans clearly see an opening to take out Jones, who had been leading in the polls, and some privately acknowledge the longer Democrats — particularly the party’s nominee for governor, former Rep. Abigail Spanberger — stick by him, the more it allows the GOP to go on the offense in the final weeks before Election Day.

Doubting Republicans are still bullish on winning.

The next mid-term election will be equally fun for the GOP.

Snipping Dumb Donald's tiny balls off is a big priority for the majority of sane Americans.

Hoping SCOTUS blows up his principal "economic initiative" (tariffs) in the meantime.

Speaks volumes when the most conservative SCOTUS in my lifetime and one with as many Trump appointees is probably set to shut this economic clown show down.

However, he'll likely just use everything in his power to stymie trade with the nations topping his sh*t list and essentially hold international trade as a bargaining chip until he gets his way.

It makes me LOL that after all the hate and lies and rhetoric that spews out of the mouth of Dementia Donnie and his underlings, after all the hate spewed by Baldy Miller and Pete Kegseth, Republicans clutch their pearls at this.

Like get bent, do you think anyone besides your kool-aid drinking Donnie cult buys this faux outrage after all the s*** that has spewed out of Donnie's mouth?

Its amazing what can happen and you make a mistake, then apologize and own it. Trump has NEVER admitted he was in the wrong. Even when objectively he blatantly was wrong, he is so immature and fragile he won't own up to it.

First of all tariffs are not a conservative thing. Conservatives are free traders in principle. This is another example of where Trump is not a conservative. This lawsuit was brought by right of center libertarians. As for folks appointed by Trump, let this serve as an example that they're not beholden to him

This kind of behavior is not unique to Trump. To prove my point, I'll throw you a simple one: How many Dem pols admitted they were wrong when they said Biden was "sharp as a tack" or similar?

Or if you prefer, how many folks FBI or otherwise, admitted they were wrong when they said Hunter's laptop was Russian disinformation?

Did Obama ever admit he was wrong when he said Obamacare would lower your premiums and you can keep your doctor?

VN anxiously awaits your response. Any and all Trump haters are free to answer these as well
