both in this election and the historical norm, those are pitiful numbers. Even worse than national elections for the country. Roughly 50-60% of eligible voters cast ballots in national electons. the number of people who do not vote is roughly double the number of those who vote for any of two main candidates.

"Even worse than national elections" is a weird way to phrase that, because of course turnout is higher for national elections. A mayoral race in an off year got almost as many NYC voters as the 2024 presidential election

Local elections always have lower turnouts. Presidential elections usually drive higher, though still pathetic, turnout levels.

I think it is only weird if you have some agenda with the observation. National election turnout is weak. NYC mayoral elections are weaker. It's a sad reality.

I don't feel weird with the observation because I am one of those who doesn't vote.

I had a poor assumption about the nyc mayoral race. I guess because there was so much attention given, i thought the voters were more energized. They were compared to history. But only about 1M of 7M voted for The Zohan.

What I saw of Europe was in pretty good shape the last time I was there. Other than pickpockets in a few places and petty theft, crime's less of a concern in their cities than ours. Sorry I didn't see or hear of any really scary stuff to report.

Fusion voting puts the emphasis of the benefit as being for the parties, not the individual voters, or even the one elected.

and I really don't see how it helps the smaller "fusing" party. its not like if Mamdani (D) gets 20% of his total votes that Mamdani is magically going to do what they want 20% of the time.

Funding is often tied to the percentage of the vote a party receives, I don't get why this is supposed to be nefarious

I was in a couple of large cities in Europe 2 months ago and had a blast. The pearl clutching is funny to me
