Windy's football discussion thread.

Bigger concern is why we are waiting until Y6 to address this.

Also, we had 3 4* guys in the 2024 class. None of them are starting and guy getting the most PT is a 3* guy. We had to go pay 6 figures to bring in a ND backup because one of those 4* wasnt ready.

It's been a fairly consistent theme since Pruitt's guys circled out of the system that we've struggled against good defenses. The UGA game this year was the exception...

We've lucked out a bit this year since UK, MSU, Arky, and Syracuse are all awful defensively. We've played 3 competent defensive fronts and were whipped twice upfront..
lots of sucky offensive line coaches out there with this metric.

Georgia has 0 players from the 2024 class starting, only 1 from 2025, and its because the older starter got hurt. and only 1 in the two deep.

Ohio State has 1 player from the 2024 class starting, they were a transfer. 2 in the 2 deep.

Bama has 0 players from 2024 class starting. 2 in the two deep.

Oregon has 0 players from the 2024 class starting, 1 in the two deep.

each one of those has recruited better than us. each one uses fewer young guys than we do. each one uses transfers as starters.

‘Here’s what you better do’ – Former Vols defender who played for 3 coaches at Tennessee has some advice for Josh Heupel

“Heupel is a great coach,” said Walls. “He did an awesome job of taking this program from where it was to creating some stability. The job he did with guys leaving for the portal with the whole (Jeremy) Pruitt deal, I don’t think we even understand how much he had to do — as far as mentality wise and changing people in the building.

But here’s what you better do. You’ve got to stop promoting from within. Go find some guys that are going to push and elevate this program to where we’re not only just talking about, ‘Hey, you know what, they did alright, they made it to the playoff’….go get some guys that’s going to help elevate this program.”

A great coaching staff is a necessary ingredient to a championship team. I think the Vols have a pretty solid coaching staff in place. But there’s always room for improvement.
