You ain’t lying! It’s chaotic after a game. Only in college football can you wade among 80,000 sad drunks after getting cut off for the night.Although gross to the core I am more concerned about being hit in the back walking to my car or ride after the game.
My dad did this when he retired. He had fun doing it and made a lot of friends until they put him in the student section. He was 75 years old. The students didn't want to listen and were very rude to him. He finally told the person over the ushers that if he didn't move him he would have to not come back the following year. They finally moved him and he finished out that year and the next. This year he decided not to do football. Now he does soccer, men's and women's basketball and softball. Each sport has a head usher and the ones over the sports he is still doing are much more understanding and appreciative of what each usher does.McRib and I decided if we move to cookeville where our kids are likely to settle, we are going to try to be game ushers at Neyland.
One of these things sounded fun.people must not get out much. I get that this experience was EXTREMELY unlucky and I'm sympathetic towards that. but I grew up around Cleveland Browns games when they famously stopped selling alcohol after the 3rd quarter due to the levels of drunken unruliness.
it's not just the NFL it's even worse in college. I've seen people have piss thrown on them in Gainesville. I've been to UT games where I've had full cups of Jack and Coke spilled all over me after Tennessee scores a touchdown and the drunk next to me throws his hands up forgetting he has a drink in his hand.
I've had glass airline bottles hit me in the head and one time a girl rubbed her tits in my face for good luck because I told her I had a lucky face.
absolutely none of this is new and my experience goes back to the late 80s.
football draws a different class of person.
if you want a stress free experience I would try MLB games or buy tickets higher up in the stadium.
Are you offering representation?Unlike the adult sized children coming on this board to whine about the game/coaches/etc. as if they're owed something, you have a legitimate gripe. I don't blame you or your wife for feeling the way you feel. I do hope that you'll give it another shot one day with a much better experience, but I understand if you don't. Hope UT does something about it.
My brother died at 60 years old from alcohol induced cirrhosis of the liver. EXTREMELY horrible death. My dad and 3 brothers were alcoholics. Most doctors now say to stay away from ALL alcohol. I realize my position is probably not a popular one, but living through the horrors of alcohol since I was a baby have definitely shaped my opinion.BRAVO! If you can't stop at 1 or 2 Max, you are an alcoholic. You have one Liver. Be kind to it, or it will take you out.
Right there with you. Interaction with people these days is way overrated. In addition to the ever increasing cost of going, your second sentence is exactly why I’ve quit going to games in person. Just don’t feel the need to put up with drunks and rubes who don’t know how to act in public and the stadium is full of them. The LaZBoy and the 70 inch big screen are more than fine with me these days.Stupid to ever start selling alcohol at Neyland anyhow. There are too many Idiots in a crowd of 100k, and decorum has bit the dust. How the hell can you enjoy a game if you are puking drunk? At least back in the day, those who sneaked a bottle in were usually drinkers who could handle it. Lastly, WTH is wrong with being Sober? The current society is a pathetic bunch. Exactly why I keep my distance.
