Never coming back to Neyland

Although gross to the core I am more concerned about being hit in the back walking to my car or ride after the game.
You ain’t lying! It’s chaotic after a game. Only in college football can you wade among 80,000 sad drunks after getting cut off for the night.

KPD has so little control over the situation.. It’s a recipe for disaster.

people must not get out much. I get that this experience was EXTREMELY unlucky and I'm sympathetic towards that. but I grew up around Cleveland Browns games when they famously stopped selling alcohol after the 3rd quarter due to the levels of drunken unruliness.

it's not just the NFL it's even worse in college. I've seen people have piss thrown on them in Gainesville. I've been to UT games where I've had full cups of Jack and Coke spilled all over me after Tennessee scores a touchdown and the drunk next to me throws his hands up forgetting he has a drink in his hand.

I've had glass airline bottles hit me in the head and one time a girl rubbed her tits in my face for good luck because I told her I had a lucky face.

absolutely none of this is new and my experience goes back to the late 80s.

football draws a different class of person.

if you want a stress free experience I would try MLB games or buy tickets higher up in the stadium.

McRib and I decided if we move to cookeville where our kids are likely to settle, we are going to try to be game ushers at Neyland.
My dad did this when he retired. He had fun doing it and made a lot of friends until they put him in the student section. He was 75 years old. The students didn't want to listen and were very rude to him. He finally told the person over the ushers that if he didn't move him he would have to not come back the following year. They finally moved him and he finished out that year and the next. This year he decided not to do football. Now he does soccer, men's and women's basketball and softball. Each sport has a head usher and the ones over the sports he is still doing are much more understanding and appreciative of what each usher does.

Afternoon Florida game several years ago someone threw up on the walkway right in front of us before the game started. It smelled soooo bad, especially with how hot it was. Ushers tried to wash it away with buckets of water but the smell stayed all game.

One of these things sounded fun.

I was at Etsu many years ago the first day of spring quarter for an afternoon class in an un air conditioned building that was quite warm. I heard some rumbling behind me and chairs moving. A buddy of mine was drunk in class and was trying to hustle out of the classroom from back to front. as he reached the top desks in the row, he spewed a thin stream of beer puke and hit an attractive young lady in the upper back of her sun dress. He proceeded out the door and resumed depositing beer remains down the hall which the class could hear as he was muffling the sound while in class.

that obviously disrupted the class. The most amazing thing is that he did not immediately drop the class but showed up for the next one like nothing happened!

This is something you can recall vividly 50 years later.

I was all for the ability to purchase a beer at the stadium, but I’ve gone the opposite direction after a few years of watching it play out. More than a few times, we’ve had to play peacemaker to keep some drunk folks from fighting or doing something stupid. Folks spending hundreds on overpriced beers and completely trashed by the end of the first quarter. Ushers are essentially powerless to do anything and not enough law enforcement to take action during a raucous night game.

All for adults being able to enjoy themselves and have some drinks. I know I’ve been there myself, but it’s gotten to a point where for the money you spend on the game, you expect a little bit more than what you are getting.

Unlike the adult sized children coming on this board to whine about the game/coaches/etc. as if they're owed something, you have a legitimate gripe. I don't blame you or your wife for feeling the way you feel. I do hope that you'll give it another shot one day with a much better experience, but I understand if you don't. Hope UT does something about it.
Are you offering representation?

BRAVO! If you can't stop at 1 or 2 Max, you are an alcoholic. You have one Liver. Be kind to it, or it will take you out.
My brother died at 60 years old from alcohol induced cirrhosis of the liver. EXTREMELY horrible death. My dad and 3 brothers were alcoholics. Most doctors now say to stay away from ALL alcohol. I realize my position is probably not a popular one, but living through the horrors of alcohol since I was a baby have definitely shaped my opinion.

Stupid to ever start selling alcohol at Neyland anyhow. There are too many Idiots in a crowd of 100k, and decorum has bit the dust. How the hell can you enjoy a game if you are puking drunk? At least back in the day, those who sneaked a bottle in were usually drinkers who could handle it. Lastly, WTH is wrong with being Sober? The current society is a pathetic bunch. Exactly why I keep my distance.
Right there with you. Interaction with people these days is way overrated. In addition to the ever increasing cost of going, your second sentence is exactly why I’ve quit going to games in person. Just don’t feel the need to put up with drunks and rubes who don’t know how to act in public and the stadium is full of them. The LaZBoy and the 70 inch big screen are more than fine with me these days.

I understand your frustration.

I’m replying because my first job out of college in 2009 was working for the Georgia Dome where the falcons played. I spent a year working every sporting event and concert, so I’m very familiar with how unruly patrons can ruin the stadium experience for others. Unfortunately, there’s only so much that the stadium personnel can do in situations like yours. It’s the risk you take by going to an event these days.

All that to say, I’ve only attended about 5 major sporting events since 2009 for a reason. The money doesn’t justify it.

Funny side note, I was actually about 10 feet above urban meter and Tim Tebow in their post game interview following the 2009 SEC Championship loss. That was pretty cool. I also was invited to the espn trailer on New Year’s Eve to meet lane kiffin. That was also cool for about the next 48 hours.

The Neyland Stadium gameday fan experience at night games or SEC conference games continues to deteriorate rapidly. Law enforcement is simply there to watch the game for free, the ushers are mostly retired UT personnel, there to watch the game for free and the blue shirt managing the ticket acceptance and exterior security are hourly contract workers.

The one thing Heupel has suggested that I agree with is Neyland should lose about 20,000 bad seats in the south upper deck and move to a comparable Danny Deck in the south end zone that mirrors the one on the north side. Setting up alcohol free zones wouldn't be a bad idea, much easier to enforce as there should be zero alcohol of any type in those zones/sections
