Never coming back to Neyland

This will sound harsh but if you're that fragile then traveling to a big time college football game is probably not the best thing for you. Stay on the couch and watch form the comfort of your house.
Fragile is being shocked by foul language, loud noises and people standing up in front of you. Once you get puked on, all bets are off.

I wouldn’t confuse fragile with irritable. That’s how you end up on the wrong end of an ass kicking.

But I agree, if I’m getting puked on there’s going to be personal confrontation.

For those of us who know…ALCOHOL has been society’s biggest, most destructive entity we have. No question about it. And usually the offender will defend their right to poison their bodies regardless of the death, destruction, and devastation it causes to others ….ESPECIALLY to their children. I’ve been thrown up on multiple times at Neyland. It’s a scourge on our society. JUST ASK A CHILD OF ALCOHOLICS!!! But alas….it will unfortunately continue to cause shamefulness at events like this we must endure 🤷‍♂️.

I made this account to partly share my frustrations. I’ve been a huge vol fan my whole life. I grew up going to the games. I graduated from there. I finally got the opportunity to take my wife to a game in Neyland this last Saturday and I was so excited for her to experience it for the first time.

Leading up to the game everything was fairly normal until we actually got in the stadium. We had pretty decent seats in the lower bowl behind the Tennessee bench (but not the premiums). We had an older couple behind us (likely mid 60’s) arguing the whole game and cussing at each other. Fairly annoying but we ignored it. Big game.. Night game.. people drink.. whatever.

Before halftime we both felt this rush of fluid on our back. We turn around and the older woman is throwing up all over us and into a bag. It gets all on our jackets and clothes. all on our seats. Instead of the “wtf” we try to be nice. It happens, we go to the bathrooms and clean off best we can. We tell the stadium personnel that throw up is all on our seats we need it cleaned or can we find another seat. They essentially laughed at us. Said good luck finding another seat here (because it’s sold out)

We were without a seat the whole second half. Had to find a concourse area to stand and watch the whole rest of the game with throw up on us after paying $900 for seats. While standing in the concourse a younger woman rushes out throwing up and hitting our shoes. So that’s the Neyland experience these days? Pay $900 for two tickets to take your wife for the first time. Get thrown up on twice by unruly fans who can’t handle their alcohol. Lose your seats halfway through the game because vomit is all over them, and the stadium personnel can’t help you they just laugh.

My wife never wants to come back. And frankly I don’t either.. almost $1,000 for that. And to lose. Come on…

UT ticket office has reached out to me but I doubt they reimburse or do anything about it.

Just venting… I know it could be worse but I really was hoping for a great experience for her and some of our fans ruined it. Neyland is a place where I eventually wanted to get season tickets, bring our future kids too, etc. and Saturday wasn’t the best first impression on my wife.
That's terrible man. I dont know which is worse. The incident itself or the staff laughing about it.

Ehh, I think getting puked on by anyone that isn't a sick child is beyond what is to be expected at a college football game.

The old lady may have experienced a seizure from the light show and deafening DJ crap. There are too many doctors and judges on Vol Nation..
Or maybe all that plus the scoop and score was too much for her……I almost puked at home and hadn’t had anything to drink.

Stupid to ever start selling alcohol at Neyland anyhow. There are too many Idiots in a crowd of 100k, and decorum has bit the dust. How the hell can you enjoy a game if you are puking drunk? At least back in the day, those who sneaked a bottle in were usually drinkers who could handle it. Lastly, WTH is wrong with being Sober? The current society is a pathetic bunch. Exactly why I keep my distance.

I guess it just is what it is. I’m not going to pretend I’ve never had a few and been buzzed inside the stadium, but the acceptance of people being completely wasted football games is ridiculous.
Buzzing fans aren't the issue in my opinion. It's the sloppy idiots who are a danger to themselves and others who cause the problems.

This sort of thing has been happening for years. The way to get a handle n it is to find the seat holders of the "sick" fans confront them, nor allow them seats anymore. Refund the remaining tickets they have payed for and not sell them any season tickets or for that amtter any tickets in the future. (charging them with public intoxication).

I would tune in to this Myth Busters episode. “What made the old lady puke on the fan who paid too much?”

There was a lot to be sick about on Saturday. Including a long ass walk around tailgates and construction fences.

I remember back 20-25 years ago we got press box seats and gave them to one of my boys and a friend. My son who was about 15 at the time said a guy up there cursed the entire time ruined the entire experiment. What an idiot.

Sorry for your rough experience. It's a real downer.

At the same time, you might notice that you don't see others on the board here sharing horrific tales of being thrown up on or the like. It's a rare thing. Most of the time, your game experience (win or lose) will be much more pleasant than that.

1,000 people flip a coin. Half of them (500) get heads. The other 500 leave. Do it again: 250 heads. And again: 125. Keep doing that for a total of 10 times, and one person is left standing there. He flipped heads 10 times in a row. He feels very lucky. But really, it was just the law of averages in large groups.

Point is, Neyland seats more than 100,000 people. You and your wife were unfortunately the ONE couple in all that sea of humanity that rolled tails 10 times in a row. It almost certainly will not happen to you again.

I know that's not much help. But maybe something to laugh about (the incredibly bad luck, not the vomit), say, 10 years from now.

Sorry you had a rough go.

Go Vols!

Sorry that happened to you, OP. The whole business is rotten. Alcohol at games; legal betting; ticket prices through the roof so coaches, players, and administrators can get rich. It's getting harder and harder to support this nonsense. It's losing what made College athletics special and turning into an inferior version of pro sports.

There's probably more fun to be had at a D2 or D3 game, and far and away better value for money.

BRAVO! If you can't stop at 1 or 2 Max, you are an alcoholic. You have one Liver. Be kind to it, or it will take you out.

I had 5 college students trying to fit in 4 seats so they were STANDING the entire game in front of us (upper deck). Then someone tripped down the steps and spilled an entire large souvi cup full of powerade on me and others.

You should write a letter to the school. At the very least, they will know they have a very unhappy customer, and I wouldn't be shocked if they may try to make it right somehow.

What a terrible night. How is it possible to get thrown up on twice in one night. If you get anything from the ticket office don't expect $900 for two seats. You obviously bought these on the secondary market, the face value wasn't close to $450. Maybe you could ask them for a couple of New Mexico State tickets. The early start should cut down on the puking.

I was all for alcohol being sold in the stadium, but I do think it has become a net negative to most fans. The folks sneaking it in were a different breed, for the most part. That was a "gameday enhancer". Their tolerance was much higher.

Now, you deal with a lot of idiots who think you go to a game and get wasted because thats what you're SUPPOSED to do...or just because now they can.
