Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I have a friend who is a bull gator, who seems to think it’s happening.
It might. Wouldn't be the craziest thing to happen this season, but the timing makes little sense unless Florida announces Kiffin prior to ESD. The longer he coaches for Ole Miss, the more he sets himself back in year one in terms of the roster. It may seem minor but if Ole Miss will match Florida's offer dollar for dollar and he doesn't have to rebuild yet again somewhere else, why would he make that move? I'm not at all convinced he would have the NIL at UF he has already at Ole Miss to build a team.

Absolutely it's out of control. From coaches salaries, to buyouts, to nil, to revenue sharing. The college football I grew to love is gone and will never return. I don't think Heupel will have suitors that are better programs than the Vols. The only way Heupel leaves is if he wants to pull a Cuonzo.
Yeah I honestly don’t know. I think it depends on how many coaches tell these teams no. I think it will be a bunch. There aren’t many jobs better than ours so you’re probably right. I could see some considered equivalent maybe trying to get him. I think he likes it here so hopefully it’s just talk. I just hope it doesn’t get more toxic as that could change things.

I agree. I think it would be a bad move in his part. My Florida friend, obviously, disagrees.

We are spending the 3rd most on football of any school in the country. Those 2 teams aren't hiring coaches. We would match anything Heupel is offered unless Danny wants to make a change. That can't be ruled out, I guess. Would make little sense considering the class coming in.

UT fans thinking Heupel would use any interest for more than getting a bigger contract with Tennessee is even more deluded. Only way Heupel leaves is if we fire him.
I don't think he has any genuine interest in leaving. That was not the point being made. Fans imposing their ridiculous opinions about CJH's lack of coaching ability onto decision-makers at other universities was the topic.

He loses to Vandy and FL it will get toxic. The game last night was the worst in his tenure here IMO.

Checking in today... Not disappointed lol.

Props to the defense yesterday. They played average or a little above average. Admirable where they are given the key injuries. If they had done that all year, we'd still be in playoff contention.

The 2025 team will be summarized by a bad defense and an inability to run the ball. Ironic given where we thought the team was in the preseason. What happened to our offense yesterday is just what happens to one dimensional offenses sometimes. You have no margin for error that way. You need perfect QB play if you can only move the ball through the air, and Aguilar is not perfect. It isn't as if we just saw it. We did it against Mississippi State too. Unfortunately, Oklahoma is a better team than Mississippi State.

I hope Heupel overhauls the defensive staff. There's just no reason we can't have at least the defense from yesterday for 12 games.

As far as the offense, ****, I'm sure Heupel wishes he could run too. As evidenced by that attrocious drive right after the fumble by Oklahoma. It is what it is. Two problems. Bad defense. Can't run the ball. They have two things to work on going into the off-season. It's not like we just lost because we scored 3 points on Kentucky.

The idea that this result is somehow a sign of endemic problems in the culture or the strategy or any of that... Please. That attitude is part self-hatred, and part just not seeing the current college football landscape for what it is. If you think the standards of the pre-NIL era are still relevant today, my advice would be to accept that sport no longer exists and stay far the hell away.

Huepel is a damn good coach. In game decisions aside, I feel like we're headed in right direction. Whatever changes he decides to make on defense, if at all i'm good.

My expectations to stay invested in the program is that if Heup stays, the assistant coaching staff undergoes a major shake up. He also needs to become a HC instead of an OC wearing a HC cap. His in-game decisions and lack of input on the defense are telling. After five seasons I would have thought we would be long past this stage.

But all of that is Danny's call. I just know I do not have the same level of fandom I once did because I keep seeing so much stupid during games.
