Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Everyone on here saying they're not saying to fire Heupel, but it's seems to me that there's a lot of you who wouldn't be upset if he left.
We could get massively screwed if he leaves, especially with the high-profile jobs open right now. We probably wouldn't talk to Kiffin and nobody would want Kelly, Franklin, or Dabo. We could hope for Golesh if he hasn't been snatched up before that happens.

Don't want him fired, don't want him to leave, but if he decided to leave, bye. I've said all along my loyalty is to the Tennessee Volunteers. The head coach is not the team. I like Heupel. I want him to succeed. But all of that is tied to him being Tennessee's head coach.

Wins and ticket sales tend to have a correlation. Even I would fire Heupel at 2-10. I really don’t think Heupel is looking but with the amount of vacancies he’s got to have some suitors. Did you see what Nebraska gave Matt Rhule? Seems like Heupel is better than him? The whole system is just out of control. I think we generally agree?
Absolutely it's out of control. From coaches salaries, to buyouts, to nil, to revenue sharing. The college football I grew to love is gone and will never return. I don't think Heupel will have suitors that are better programs than the Vols. The only way Heupel leaves is if he wants to pull a Cuonzo.

I still think it's a completely different game if Sanders doesn't blow his assignment leading to their scoop and score. I think we could have gone up 17-0, probably 21-0 before they found their footing.

First half felt like we were Foreman getting rope a doped
One of the plays that the refsbgave OU points on

Not sure why you think Heupel is not willing to upgrade if he is able? You have to identify the clear upgrade and then compete with many other schools to actually hire the upgrade. He also has to fit into your system. I think Heupel wants to win and is open to change. The narrative he isn’t willing is just another internet rumor.
Others seem to figure it out

Been a lot of talk about Garner for weeks on VQ. AP's take:
Most people don’t know that Rodney’s sister in law passed and G and his wife are the guardians of three little kids. It’s a different dynamic for them.
If the new coach at Auburn wants him to come back to his alma mater and his wife and those young children are in Auburn Alabama, then yes I could definitely see him going back to Auburn… Other than that I think he would be here

I would be upset if he left due to the uncertainty and I like him.

I keep asking a different question, what do we want as fans. Do we want to be at the consistent top 5 level or are we good with top 25 and the occasional great season.

It's not a bigger risk if he senses that he's losing his grip here and that the upcoming schedules are so difficult he's almost certain to end up on the hot seat. Moving to a new job resets the clock. Especially if it's a team with a lot of NIL resources and a bad recent history. He can come in, nab a QB out of the portal, install his offense, and win 8-9 games year one and be a hero with a long leash. Not someone who peaked in year two and is trending down.

Also, he's not going to be taking the calls personally, lol. It would all be done via backchannels, and that kind of stuff doesn't get out unless someone wants it to get out. Usually the coach's own agent if he's fishing for a raise or the school/AD/boosters courting him who think they're close to a deal and are putting pressure on. He can "listen" without it ever remotely getting anywhere. But if the offer actually sounds good I wouldn't be totally shocked if he did indeed think about it.
It almost always gets out one way or another. rumor or truth.

I think he’s dragging up his awful staff and that itself is causing him to droop down a notch or two. Send away a few position coaches and coordinator then go shopping for elite names with AD White. Kinda like Ohio state has done

That wouldn't be me. I think his days here are numbered though. The honeymoon is over. I think we all like honeymoons. He may want another honeymoon.

Yes, you have to know the weaknesses. No you are wrong that the coach has to k ow and execute. His issue is willingness to execute.

The receiver coach was not the problem last year, it was clearly Nico and super conservative play calling in SEC play. Joey can sling it, albeit sometimes to OU’s safety.

We do have clear weaknesses on O Line, Secondary, DC, Special teams, and maybe OC. Also I would suggest an upgrade at S&C is warranted.

You have to be willing to go out and upgrade. If not, you will fall behind. Notice I said upgrade.
OL not the issue but I otherwise agree.
