Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Agree with every word Slice...because its accurate and true. CJH is going nowhere unless he does something Petrino/Freeze like where UT has no choice but to fire him.

A solid logical case can be made that Hype is the best coach in the SEC besides Kirby. Any argument that he is outside the top 3 can be taken apart like Legos with hard facts and objective truths about the important things like wins, record at home, Offense and defense ranks in national top10, and adversity/dumpster fire/sanctions on the program up until this year.

I get that people are mad. It was painful to watch as Freak commented last night in the game thread because we ARE a better team by 14points easily. That doesnt make the staff, players etc any less than they are. It just makes a 3rd loss in a season where the overwhelming majority of even VOL fans saw 8-9 wins. Its painful because we could have beaten UGA and OK. I hate it mostly because of the huge number of recruits that saw it up close. We had the national spotlight last night and looked great for the 1st two possessions. Then we fell apart. Flush it and move on is all we can do. Wasnt as bad as the Kentucky game when JG threw BACK 2 BACK pick 6s with only the kickoff in between them. That loss was painful. Most people had us losing to all 3 teams that have beat us. A healthy portion had us dropping 4 or 5 games which is possible as well. GO VOLS.

I’m liking the parity of football now. Some say that the nil ruined the sport but it’s for a more interesting season.
And the bottom teams can occasionally pop up and play good. Indy and Vandy for example

Against my wishes I have to agree that NIL has been a levelizer. I can't argue against players being paid a fee if a commercial entity uses NIL to produce a product for profit - my real argument would be that amateur athletes of all stripes are off limits to commercialism. I absolutely disagree with made up stuff to buy players and especially with revenue sharing. Seems like too many people have forgotten that the team is supposedly comprised of students - that it is a university where students go and pay their dues (pretty hefty these days) to get an education and the necessary credentials to move into careers. The real tragedy has been that professional sports - specifically football and basketball have used collegiate sports to do what they should do. Pro sports should spend the money to build feeder teams (minor leagues or farm teams) to feed future needs and leave collegiate sports truly amateur.

At least for a time there was some effort made to see that student athletes worked toward and did actually graduate. I do remember taking a geology course because I needed an elective and the subject interested me. I also found out why it was called "Rocks for Jocks" when the prof handed out tests and walked out to allow discussion over correct answers. I prefer my degrees to be considered meaningful and not diluted by conduct unbecoming of the university - lack of academic rigor and promotion of worthless degrees. My son tutored athletes while at UT; at least Pat pushed to see that her players did work and did graduate.

Hey bud. Know you're busy but I still cant quote people's posts to respond to them. Started yesterday probably from all the traffic? Are we still super busy or is something just wrong for me? I am always only mobile on a Samsung Galaxy phone. Its very old though...

Thanks for your help and for VN in general as always. Best place on the net.

I think Scott Frost should hire Freeze on name alone.

Very glad we aren't looking for a coach in this cycle.

Always amazing that coaches can have a period of success by being at the right place at the right time and people consider them "made" and movers even when they repeatedly demonstrate questionable ability under more normal circumstances.

I didn’t say being competitive was good enough.
2-2 in the last 4 vs Bama. A missed FG as time ran out vs Ga in a rebuild year and hammering LSWho at their place isn’t just being competitive.

Like it or not , the days of a Saban buying….recruiting the best team and out athleteing Errbody else is over. The Nil has leveled the field. Even vandy can make an occasional run. If we get a coach who can win 9-11 games year in and out then he’s a keeper. 10-11 wins is the playoffs every year.

Who out there right now other than Kirby….who’s on the verge of being a 9-11 wins coach, is better than Hypel and would take the Tennessee job?

History is full of years of drought following the firing of a coach who didn't win it all or who had a down season or two. Our long walk in the wilderness was certainly something everyone should consider. Don't bet that Auburn, FL, LSU, and others will continue in the FAFO mode. A&M looks to have been lucky and not as cursed as FSU after trying the same experiment. Never could figure out why A&M thought Jimbo looked promising after the FSU experiment. Makes you wonder if AR will botch it again, too. And you know somebody is going to be stupid and hire Kelly, Franklin, and some others.

Could have something to do with your phone settings. I haven’t had any issues on iOS or android and I’m not aware of anyone else having issues. You’ve probably tried clearing cache and temp files. That’s really my only suggestion. Wish I had something else to offer.

I think once you miss the playoffs the rankings are irrelevant.
For champ consideration sure. But there is still some recognition of the program at a national level. It’s not a big boost for sure but it likely helps a tad in recruiting. Stuff like that.

Don’t get me wrong we SHOULD be focused on CFP playoffs. However that is now moot for this season.

I don't think rankings matter in recruiting at all.

Exactly this. 100% this. Every word.

We are very lucky to have CJH. Top 3 coach in this incredibly cutthroat SEC. If we can manage a playoff every other year which looks feasible...we will be among maybe a dozen teams in the nation that can pull that off.

I griped all night about our 15 runs for about 15yds up the middle throwing away all those 1st downs and putting us off schedule. We had THE top recruit on our board on campus for 27, TN RB Georges AND the top target for us at RB for 26 that we badly want to add to the class last minute...which we have been working on for well over a year. We had to run the ball quite a bit. I believe we had 58 total rushing yards though. You cant give up on the run and hope to land either kid...even though it was painfully obvious that we couldn't run vs their Dline. You have to run some just to slow down the pass rush too, Joey took a beating last night. Hes hurting today I bet. Still threw for almost 400yds.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but in no world I live in is Hype a top 3 coach in the SEC. He’s certainly not better than Smart, Elko, Kiffin, DeBoer or Lea, which puts him 6th at best and its questionable whether he’s better than Venables which might put him at 7th. It’s also quite possible and more likely that whomever LSU hires will be better also, LSU won’t bargain shop for a coach, as we’ve witnessed with them they have expectations, 9-3 or 8-4 doesn’t cut it there for long. UF probably gonna swing for the fence this time around too, which might drop him another slot. Hype was 2-2 against the guy everybody here likes to call Sunbelt Billy that just got canned, that should tell you something right there. Hype is upper middle of the pack presently and may drop. We could certainly do worse for a coach which we have proven with Dooley, Jones and Pruitt, but we could definitely do better too. Just how I see it.

We should McDad this and start playing for the next season.

Most people don’t know that Rodney’s sister in law passed and G and his wife are the guardians of three little kids. It’s a different dynamic for them.
If the new coach at Auburn wants him to come back to his alma mater and his wife and those young children are in Auburn Alabama, then yes I could definitely see him going back to Auburn… Other than that I think he would be here
