I'd play George MacIntyre

Which sounds like a coaching or evaluation with high school players problem.
That is not a problem unique to Heupel. No coach anywhere can be sure of how a high schooler will react under the speed and toughness of the college game.
The entire College Football landscape is littered with 4 and 5 star recruits who didn’t pan out.

I’ve got news for you. G Mac had a 2 win junior season. He’s never going to be the guy.

So why is here? Why is there 6 figures invested in him? Either the staff is stupid or they feel confident they can develop him.

There are either issues with the staff bringing these guys in or there are issues the players. Better to get a glimpse at the future than to roll the dice and use spring practice as the final decider.

Heupel won’t even be entertained to lose his job here until the end of next year at the earliest. And if the QB play is shaky because they are green and inexperienced, that wolves will be out.

JA is second in the nation in passing yards and 5th in touchdowns so I don’t know what you are talking about. It is extremely likely that neither of them will be the starter next and one or both is just as likely to transfer

Yeah the staff is stupid. They show you that every week

who says that we are tanking the season? my expectations are to win the remainder of the games with the QB of the future.

after you watch Aguilar throw multiple dumb interceptions it's perfectly reasonable to lose faith in his ability to lead the team. let's see if GMac can do it right.
Coach Heupel has already seen what G-Mac and Merk are from a much more skilled and closer vantage point than you.

You think he's rolling Joey A out there now when he really believes he isn't the best chance to win? You do realize Heupel has done this for decades, right? You SERIOUSLY think it's a good coaching idea to say "Well, Joey A had a seriously lousy game with terrible interceptions so I'm going to just put in G-Mac because who knows.... it could be that he's ready."

Seriously. Listen to yourself.

Why won’t they be the starter? Because of inexperience. Seems like an opportunistic time to solve that question mark considering the 2025 season is officially a bust.

then this is immediate cause to fire Heupel without paying his buyout. if he's recruiting players who have no hope of ever competing then this is gross neglegence on the part of the coach and recruiting staff.
Recruiting a bad player is not cause to fire someone without paying their buyout, unfortunately

I guarantee that it's not Heupel's plan to start FB as a true freshman so if what you're saying is true we are in deep dogsh!t next year.

Start JA the rest of the year - he is your best shot at winning and winning still matters.

To all you that say the year is over because we are out of the playoffs, don't see how much difference a 7-5 vs 9-3 season looks to recruits.

All that said, if we get up more than 2 scores, keep the foot on the gas and get G Mac some playing time.

you do realize we could have more than one QB capable of giving us the same chance to win these game right?

and yeah I do think it's a good move to be playing the players you will be relying on leading your team next year.

if JA got injured tomorrow I still fully expect Heupel to beat these loser teams we have on our schedule

We could and if we did, Heupel very well might have used them at some point this season. Has he? No. Then most likely we don't. You think if Heupel thought Merk or G-Mac could've won vs GA, AL, or OU he WOULDN'T have used them? You SERIOUSLY think Heupel would rather lose games instead of win them to keep a one year emergency QB in the game? Seriously?

do you think Faizon is just going to ride the bench if he sees his coach have blind loyalty to a QB just because he's a senior? or is it more likely he hits the portal as soon as human possible???

like if Heupel starts Merklinger when he could start Faizon simply because of seniority or blind loyalty what will he think or do in you mind?
IF Heupel is starting ANY players he knows are inferior to their backup simply because of seniority, we have an ENORMOUS problem that is far bigger than Faizon or a single season.

If our coach isn't using the best personnel, as he sees it, INTENTIONALLY for any reason, we're screwed.

If you think Heupel is a bad coach, just come out and say you want him gone and suggest who we actually might replace him with. Good luck with that.

when you have 2 QBs competing that are close to one another you will ALWAYS default to the player with the most experience. just because Heupel hasn't used them more doesn't mean they aren't capable.

but now Aguilar is not the focus the future should be the focus.

hell, Saban benches Hurts and brought in Tua for God sake.

And when Saban did that, it was an extraordinary risk even for him and led to several tough questions at press conferences about "who is better" and eventually Hurts leaving. But I'm EXTREMELY doubtful we're blessed to have the caliber of Hurts and Tua on our roster. That's a Saban caliber recruiting problem to have and Josh isn't Nick and likely no one else is either.

All of this goes back to: screw this season, let's look at the future.

That's an extremely poor attitude for a coach to show players and unworthy of UT.

NFL has free agency. So does college. Highest bidder gets the player. Go 7-5 or 8-4 this year with no real answer on the QB going forward next year and let’s see how apathetic the donor base is with an already irked base over the Neyland Experience and talent tax that Danny White is frugal for.
Miami does this every year, and I think we go 8-4 or 9-3
