'25 Recruiting Forum: Official Tennessee versus Oklahoma Pre-game/Game Thread

Disagree on those calls in particular. Ethan Davis was having a game and Jack never gets thrown too. Have Davis run that route.

And against Bama everyone knew you had to throw. Go throw the ball with everyone split out. Or just run it. It is what it is.

And we should have beat UGA for sure. We have to get a kicker. He is costing us.

This team was never a title contender or close to being one. But they absolutely could have made the playoffs this year with seeing how everyone else is. But this was always right at a nine win team. And if they meet that, then it’s right in line. I’m afraid they won’t and drop the last two and that would be a terrible look for us.
7-5 would be horrible

Just leave. You are the soft one who bales when adversity hits. Don’t need your basillio loving drama

Haha, nope. Tired of glossing over the same issues week to week. Conservative play calling, bad clock management, sloppy play. We’ll never win anything significant if it continues. Doesn’t mean we need to fire Heupel, but we’re not reaching full potential with the current structure.

It doesn’t matter if people expected 8-4 or 9-3. We’ve had opportunities that would allow us to be 10-2 or 11-1 and we squandered them with poor coaching.

Still frustrated. Have given away 2 home games this year, and played junky against Bama or it would have been closer.

In an year where the SEC is mid, the team wasted a great opportunity.

Our play calling was nowhere near conservative. If anything we were too agressive. Stop building these false narratives in your head, if you’re of having to gloss over them.

You constructing false narratives will in no way impact our ability to win anything significant.

It obviously matters. Good coaching is how a team that’s expected to go around 8-4 has a chance to win 10 or 11 games.

Obviously Huep was looking for the home run play and it never showed, er rarely. Lack of running game got JG sacked, a lot.

What’s not to understand.

The better the team does, the louder the crowd.
Visiting teams want to “take the crowd out of it” by playing really well and put a little doubt in the head of the fans .

UT takes the crowd out by itself by playing like 💩
Banks takes the crowd out. Bend but dont break ( becomes bend then break against good teams), Sunseri like zone, huge cushions, lets dual threat QB run wild, cannot stop good rushing team, can never defend slant pass, cannot get the stop on 3rd and long, poor tackling, poor secondary, poor safety play, slow linebackers, etc. Eventually, crowd and even players apathy sets in If the defensive scheme and play calling is a fail. Individual efforts (fans and players) cannot overcome Banks failures as a DC.

This is how you gripe.

You’re wrong in this case. This team hasn’t played up to their potential.
They have displayed it at times but too often mistakes have been the equalizer.

The expectations were wrong.

Your statement is correct in some cases but not in this one.
Not going to argue about good vs bad but best argument is it’s neither.

It was average coaching.

I just don't see how Coach Heupel can permit another year of this.
Coach Banks has had more than a fair chance to prove his worth as our DC and has failed.
Even last year when our defense and run game carried us, when we were outside of the friendly confines of Neyland Stadium and its rabid crowd noise, there was a drop-off in defensive performance.
I don't harbor animosity toward the man and I would wish him well in his future endeavors if CJH decided to part ways.
Based on what I have seen over five years, Coach Banks isn't cut out to be the DC at the University of Tennessee.

I see most are still blaming CJH for last night yet no one is talking about Aguilar’s 2 horrible INT’s or Gilbert’s missed FG or David Sanders blown assignment that led to a scoop and score…

So you think this roster is better than both Georgia and Alabama?

Did I say that? No.
Good enough to beat UGA because we were close enough and should have.

Definitely better than an overtime win vs M st.
Definitely better than 3 point win at home vs Arkansas

Take away the mistakes that excellent coaching should eliminate and we beat both UGA and Oklahoma and then
I’ll say they exceeded expectations but they didn’t and I don’t.

Being an easy FG away from beating a much better roster sounds like excellent coaching to me

That’s where we disagree. You’re 4 years behind.
They are not much better.
We have a better QB better, WR’s . O line equal .
Better offensively overall.
They got us on defense mainly because we had 3-4 key guys out .

They had 500+ total yards and we had 496.

They had the offensive game of the year, like I said before we had 3-4 key guys out and were pretty bad on D.

Came down to Mistakes, turnovers, penalties and paper thin D, not because they are a much better roster.
