You are correct but, the problem for me is not the fact that we have a few losses, it’s how we have performed in those losses. The play calling or execution of said play, the tackling and other parts of the game have just been sloppy. Also, when everyone in the US knows the other team is just going to run the ball and we let them run for a big gain, it’s just bad coaching. My thought process is that, the day Nico walked out the door and went back to California, most reasonable people would have projected us 6-3 at this point in the season, and that's exactly where we are. Like it or not, the fortunes of the 2025 Vol season always rose and fell on whether Nico would develop into the player he had the potential to be. If he did, we would have a higher ceiling. Since he hasn't and isn't even here anymore, we have a lower one this year. Honestly, if we beat either Florida or Vandy and finish 8-4, it won't be a bad year. Beat both and it's a good year, considering the situation we were put in by the I Am A Leava family.

The highest paid quarterback is Miami’s Beck. Ask Miami how they feel about that. It doesn’t always take the highest paid to win. Nico wasn’t worth what his family demanded, we got that right. Joey had a bad game against a top defense but QB isn’t our problem. While having plenty of money is very important spending it wisely and on the right people is more important. Georgia isn’t missing Beck at all, Beck isn’t worth what he is being paid either. GBOIf you set any SEC coach down and ask "what do you need to win the SEC championship" he is going to say "more NIL money". Nico's 2 million contract was considered outrageous just 2 years ago, now it's the average. You need more to recruit them, more to retain them and a larger pool for the non-stars. We are 2 steps behind the leaders and need to double up to catch up. I don't think we will or that we should go down that road any further. We will probably continue to be middle of the pack NIL with middle of the pack results, which is the best approach until this system blows up and everyone starts over. It's not sustainable.
You can't hit on every player chosen but the national champion will have spent the most NIL money overall. The highest paid quarterback is Miami’s Beck. Ask Miami how they feel about that. Not necessarily and certainly not every year. That is fact. Most money spent doesn’t automatically guarantee the championship. You have to spend but hitting on your targets is more important. Jimbo spent crazy money, out spent everyone and crumbled. You got to hit the blend of character and talent. In baseball the Yankees have historically outspent but they don’t win they have come up empty several years. Just because a team spends money like wild Fire doesn’t guarantee a championship. You have to be prudent on who you bring in the program. Your money has to be competitive with everyone else but just because you outspend everyone doesn’t guarantee squat. GBOYou can't hit on every player chosen but the national champion will have spent the most NIL money overall.
Why our D and O always look confused and staring at the sidelines in game 9 is perplexing. That is on coaching. Team discipline is on coaching. Bad fundamentals all season is coaching. Bad special teams, that area has to be addressed and whoever is coaching there isn’t getting it done. I want Heupel to succeed but them things have to be addressed. That they get repeated is disturbing. GBOInexperienced personnel can still tackle. The linebackers have no idea where to go, even the guys that have been around a while. The safeties stand around and wait for completions to happen and then engage the defender.
No way we get on the coaching carousel. The way we let Fulmer go sent us into the basement for 10+ years. Heupel has us as a top 25 team and we have a lot of youth and injuries this year. Our All American CB's being out changed our defense, albeit I'm not a fan of our DC. We should be better next year.
And didn’t he just get a bump and extension after last season? Agree. DW needs to sit still on this contract. Let him get his bonuses for a bowl game/bowl game win, but no raise, no extension. Wait and see.We would be foolish to enter this current marketplace of job openings.
My biggest fear in this year’s coaching cycle is that a lot of coaches are gonna stay put and get rewarded for it. My hope is that Heupel doesn’t get his contract modified at all. I hope we don’t give him an extension or increase in pay or increase in buyout. He’s done nothing to warrant a firing but done nothing to warrant “incentives”
We have more issues than just McCoy and Gibson being out. The entire secondary has been garbage. Plus, Hood is better than Gibson. The entire defeitakes bad angles..Just a poorly coached Defense. I really wish Heupel would bring in a great and experiOC that can implement what he does best and what Heupel does best. I just doubt Heupel ever gives up that control.
I don't know that our talent level is where it needs to be at several positions and I think it limits what the staff can do. We fans see bodies and assume they're all legit SEC players. I don't think they are. One could argue that the staff is responsible for the eval and recruiting. Fair enough, but no one bats .1000 in recruiting. It's one reason coaches now place just as much emphasis on the portal. They're more matire and known. I don't think a rash move.is wise or warranted. Better to see what the staff does to correct the issues after the season and take it from there.after sleeping on it. And after sleeping on it after the UGA game, it still sucks that we should have won both games and be sitting here with one loss and a closer game to Bama vs what the score showed,
Nevertheless, I don’t want JH canned.
For those who do, who are you going to realistically hire?
I would not be surprised if Auburn cans Freeze this week. If so, you will have LSU, UF, Auburn open. Add in Arkansas and possibly UK, along with Va Tech. Will Dabo be out as well? Seems like he is begging to be fired.
Do you seriously think that we could hire someone better than JH with all the openings? If so, who?
Are we more attractive than LSU, UF and Auburn currently? All three have won nattys and SEC championships since we last did so some 27 years ago.
To my knowledge, there is not a Phil Fulmer or Johnny Majors waiting in the wings to come home.
I don’t expect perfect seasons. It’s the little things that have led me to my decision. Our coach clearly didn’t even know a clock run rule outside of 2 min last night. We pay him 10 mil a year to know these things. He consistently botches the clock and playcall decisions.I understand you’re frustrated but if you only look at the losses and ignore the direction of the program, the wins, and everything else then you’re only looking at the glass being half empty and not full. We are, and still are after this loss, trending in the right direction. Sometimes there will be bad seasons. Majors had them. Fulmer had them. And Heupel will have them. His winning percentage has been one of the best since my time being alive as a Vols fan. We are bringing in a QB I believe will win us a chip. In no way am I going to even consider discussing wanting to move on until I see the entire Fraz tenure play out.
Talent in Tennessee is improving, but doesn't compare to Georgia, Florida, and Texas. Those are schools we are competing against to be in the upper echelon of the country. We are about equal with Oklahoma, but it took a multitutde of mistakes to lose to them. We are better than most every other program on the same level or lower level of talent as us.Bro that is a super old narrative. Georgia and Alabama have been all over the state of Tennessee getting players the past 10 years. As have Tennessee. We're not Georgia but we're better than Oklahoma, Mississippi, South Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky, and even OHIO.
Just look at the In-State recruiting rankings or the kids doing all the scoring in The 3rd Saturday of October this season.
There's plenty of talent in Tennessee. It's been that way for 15 years now. You are super late
Last years defense was packed full of talent. You could’ve done well coaching that group. The problem is we need a coach that can do more with less. Banks isn’t that.Last years defense was pretty good. Can we hire the staff that coached that defense? the problem is talent, and lack of. and that is a heupel problem that he obviously cant see until it is time to kickoff and he goes "we are shorthanded".
no, when i am getting fleeced for a "talent fee", they need a coach who knows how to use my money and keep a steady flow of talent coming in. you dont coach up teams anymore, you buy them. then, if you need one CB, you buy twoLast years defense was packed full of talent. COTY? You gotta be kidding. You watched some of the coaching malpractice this year? I’m in the boat of “ give him another year abd see if he makes necessary changes”. But to offer him awards is just plain silly.I don't know that our talent level is where it needs to be at several positions and I think it limits what the staff can do. Let's be real here. I never thought this was a playoff caliber team. I've stated several times that this was a 7 win team with 8 being a fine year under the circumstances. 9 would be incredible and Heupel should get COTY consideration.. If fans let delusions of the playoffs cloud their perception of reality, that's on them not the coaching staff.
The reality is while NIL is a huge part, we still aren’t going to be a top 5 contender when it comes to recruiting and NIL transfers. We just aren’t that school. That’s just being realistic. We have to have staff in place that can make our top 15 class look like a top 10 class. We don’t have that staff.no, when i am getting fleeced for a "talent fee", they need a coach who knows how to use my money and keep a steady flow of talent coming in. you dont coach up teams anymore, you buy them. then, if you need one CB, you buy two
