Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

All I know is a supposedly mature man telling people to get the f out of here over how they think. It’s childish.
I can’t help if people think wrong.
Childish is running down something you supposedly love!!

Childish is not being able to see that if there’s a problem here it’s the people in the Job, not the JoB itself.

Agreed with your overall point, but we absolutely do not have an easy schedule. The SEC is not down, the entire CFB is achieving parity, so maybe relative to prior years of SEC dominance it's down, but 4 or 5 SEC teams will make the playoffs. It's a tough sec.

Last year the sec was down, which is why we made the CFP with trash Nico. Not so much this year.
Kentucky
Arkansas
Mississippi state

Bad teams

We have lost to every good team.

Agree much more parity but we got some bottom dwellers that has helped

Fair point. But you cannot sit on the couch and watch these games week in and week out and not scratch your head wondering what is happening. There’s been 0 improvement, in my opinion, post UGA game. Whatever team we field that day has not shown up since. That’s alarming to me. And from year 1 to now, we still have issues with in-game discipline, clock management, and consistency from week-to-week. Those are coaching issues, not player ones.

So yes, maybe we are all drunk on misery at the moment. Or maybe, just maybe, this year has taken off the rose colored glasses and caused us to take some deep, much needed self reflection on where we’re heading.

Where are we headed? Playoffs last year, no playoffs this year, recruiting has improved, etc… curious where you think that’s headed?

playoffs? Playoffs?( picture Jim Mora)

Not making playoffs doesn’t make it a down year or rebuilding year.
Only 12 teams making the playoffs so you’re going to have to be really good to make it.

You can have a good year and not make it,

We are in the pack of USCjr , Miss st , Arkansas and UF. That’s not a good year or a sign that you’re a good team .

We could finish 9-3 and miss the playoffs by 1 game and that’s nowhere near the same pack as those teams you mentioned

I really think he's the type of coach who would benefit from a GM. Let Heupel focus on football, pay someone to handle the organizational side of things. It might help our discipline, and it might help our road woes if someone could nail down a good road routine that a "free spirit" type person that Heupel seems to be probably isn't good at.
And bring in a DC like a venables

I know it would never happen here but Jeremy Pruitt is gonna make a team extremely happy pretty soon. Especially with the NIL lol

We played Miss st, and Arkansas. Remind me , what was the score in them games?

Oh I know Arkansas by 3 at home and Miss in overtime.

And we haven’t beaten UF or Vandy yet so let’s hold off on the could be’s for now.

The evidence so far says we are absolutely in that pack. Just a tad ahead of.

Not an easy schedule compared to the rest of the country but an easy schedule to what we are used to and what we’ll see in the future.

There was a stretch where it seemed like every year we played the two best SECW teams and one of the OOC games ended up being a top 10 team

Unpopular opinion: max will be fine and is the least of our worries. He’s a young guy that will continue to get better. He’s no worse than any kicker we’ve had for the last 20 years
That remains to be seen.
It’s not making kicks against ETSU or Kentucky when a miss doesn’t mean anything that makes you good.
It’s having ice water in your veins and making them in situations that matter.
OU dude made 3 from 50 + , max missed a 35 yarder 🤷🏻‍♂️

The top 4 teams we play are probably top 15 compared to the rest of the country as far the top 4 they play.

And UF in the swamp isn't an easy game for anyone.

True we avoided Ole miss this year, but I think our schedule next year will be easier.

A 7-5 season is not an improvement. And we can recruit great all we want, but if we aren’t developing any of those recruits and they bolt for the transfer portal after one year, that’s not sustainable. I do believe Heupel can get us where we need and want to be, but only if he has the right people around him. Right now it’s clearly evident that after five years, he doesn’t. So if he’s unwilling to change that, then we’re heading into more mediocrity, which is unacceptable.

Sure it’d be nice to have an elite kicker that will only miss one all year. They’re few and very far between and I don’t recall Tennessee having one in at least 20 years

It'd be nice to have a kicker who can hit 37 yarders. . . that's not asking much from a player dedicated to doing 1 thing.

What was the score when TX beat Miss St?

What was the score when A&M beat ARK?

What was the score when Ole Miss beat ARK?

Scores of games don’t matter.

I’m certainly not assuming we’ll beat FL and Vandy but we also haven’t lost those games yet. And *if* we win them and go 9-3, that’s a pretty dang successful “down” season.

UGA isn’t. No one has a ten win average for 100 years lol. What kind of argument is that?

It’s based on current college football. Before NiL, we were an 8-10 win program and likely not amount the elite. That’s fine.

In NIL, we are a top ten program. Our NiL is top notch and among the elite and only under Texas in the SEC. We should be competing for titles every year with NIL. And we are in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and baseball. We are elite there.
Let me help you, since maths seems to be stickler for you. . .

The Vols all-time record is 67%. Heupel at Tennessee is 72.5%, with this year potentially being another 10 win season.
