That’s why we lost

What is up with our running game?

I’ll hang up and listen…
Said all week if Josh tries to run at the middle of their DL, we’re in trouble. Counter plays and misdirections to get these RBs in space was the ONLY way to have some success running the ball and keep their D a little off balance. The turnovers killed us too, though.

Lack of running game leads to risky passing game and turnovers ???

Bishop does not get enough carries. We play all 3 backs and allow them to get equal carries. Lewis and Thomas do not have the juke, cut and make you miss characteristics of Bishop. They are more straight ahead, downhill runners and Peyton Lewis has been great getting into the End Zone on short goal line scenarios. Thomas seems to have disappeared after the first few games.

There has been so critical times in games where we needed our best back in the game and that was not the case. Instead of the 12 carries a game give him 18-20 like most other backs get.

Lack of running threat hurts passing game.. especially the deep ball.. as defenses can lay back

We also are too predictable with the run after a big pass when we are trying to go fast with tempo. OU knew it was coming EVERY TIME last night and stuffed us for no gain each time.

The running game has no creativity. Same play, same downs they run them. Good teams just send more to the line than they can block.. Joey isn't a running QB and you need a true dual threat QB that can hurt you with his legs. Joey isn't that guy.
THIS all day.

We lost by 6 points, we lost because of a bad read by the qb and a whiffed block by a freshman lineman that led to 7 points the other way. It was said all week that oklahomas strength was their defensive line and that proved true last night. It was said all week that Joey would need to attack their secondary as that was the weak spot of their defense which proved true last night (save from two bad picks Joey did throw for nearly 400 yards).

You could also say that when we got a turnover leading the game by one and decided to run it three times and punt, that cost us the game as well. I’ll never understand why we get a turnover and go into a conservative shell. If you score after that turnover and go up by 8, the crowd gets back into it and who knows what happens. It’s incredibly frustrating and Heupel/Hazle do it every single time. They did it against Georgia as well which (shocker) also ended up costing us the game.

I would like to see more reverses, fake reverses, speed options in the running game...we rarely use it anymore...not on first down but it might be a good call on a 2nd and 6 type down

OU - much like Georgia in most years - took away the deep pass and still shut us down with 4 guys up front.
