Really? Are down year’s or rebuilding year’s a thing anymore?
The portal and NIL have changed the game, you re-load .
No excuses. That’s just the way it is now.
Ask Brian Kelly, James Franklin, Billy Napier and half a dozen more that have already been fired mid season.

Yes. Every team will have some years where they don’t make the playoff. Unless they expand this thing to 24

No problem ....

Indiana and Louisville will also have years where they aren’t this good. Everyone will have down years. Silly to think they wouldn’t
Have you watched Indiana? Cignetti isn’t going to have a down year. He won year one and has a chance at a title in year two. We have fans who are happy with status quo and eight wins because we had a bad decade. This job was viewed among the elite when we fired Fulmer. We wandered the wilderness for a decade plus because of bad leadership and our fans forgot our place in college football.

We been rebuilding since 2005.

Again the thing we all are focusing on is ...a hypothetical. You want him to kick a FG before the 2:00 minute TO. You then want him to go for an onside kick which if we are playing percentages, it is less than a 5% chance that it works or you hope that with a totally banged up defense we can prevent them from a 1st down when they have shown the 4 or 5 yard passes have worked all night. We weren't out coached or outplayed we just were down and all we could do was try and come back. The only thing I can blame this on is the QB who threw 2 costly interceptions and let's talk about one more thing...the tackling on those turnovers.....the fumbled score was as if we were playing 2 hand touch, the interception on the 5 yard line no one was near the guy before the 40 yard line and the other one was a floater and a terrible throw...with a QB you are the leader and you sign mini-helmeta for cash when things are going great well with Bama and now this performance things are going mediocre and you need to fix the turnovers...
I'll never comprehend how a guy that slow could run 71 yards without being stopped. Coach Doug Mathews was perplexed about that run as well.

He will absolutely have down years. Every team does outside OSU who will just out-talent everyone on the schedule. Unless you believe he’s the next Saban.

Also what are you talking about fans happy with 8 wins? Lol that’s not been the status quo since Heup arrived. Averaging 10 wins over the last 3 seasons. In the playoffs literally last year. C’mon

And this year is possibly a 10 win season.

Josh won’t do it but I wish he would hire a GM. Maybe someone like Austin Thomas from LSU. In my eyes the season we are having was set in place during the offseason. Colton Hood has been a great addition but we had far more holes than that.

AP said on the postgame he thinks we will have some players looking to the porthole so if we have some young players we like we better get them on the field.

It's not a down year. This is a successful year compared to what Tennessee has been for more than a decade, spanning 5 different coaches, not including Heupel.
We were elite for decades and have one bad decade and our fans accept being middle of the road. I never will. I wanted all the others gone way sooner and saw it wasn’t working early.

Heupel can be great. He just has to change and he hasn’t shown that he will in five years which is worrisome. I think Danny will force some changes but Heupel should want them too. If he upgraded a couple of offensive assistants and revamped the defense, he could take the next step.

Ryan day gave up calling plays and he won a title and likely another one this year. Saban changed his offense to adapt to college football even after winning titles based on defense. Heupel has a ton of potential to be elite and I want to see him reach it.

What is our historic record? Hint: it's not a 10 win average (which Heupel has, amid probation and a dumpster fire)

We have a GM. His name is Billy High. He just has a different title at Tennessee.

Did you forget this is year five? You have to average them all and this year is likely 8. He is a good coach. But can he take a big step to become a great coach remains to be seen is all I am saying. I think he is at 8-10 wins every year without changing. That means we are good, but we aren’t winning a title.

I agree with your points, but even with those changes, Heupel has to learn how to manage games, the referees, and the clock better. I'm not sure how he does that. I'm not saying he can't, but it seems to be in his DNA at this point.

If he played at Bama uga OU a red hot Vandy and at Florida, he would absolutely have a down year. We saw when they played OSU last year how far from the top they actually are. We'd be 11 or 12 wins with their schedule too.

They literally play one ranked team the whole year. This year they happened to beat them, so good for them, but it's a lot easier to get up for that tough game when it's literally the only tough game you play all year. Your starters are healthy and rested from only playing 2 or 3 quarters literally every week because almost none of your opponents are even making a bowl game. You never have to put anything but vanilla base offense and defense on film because you only play one ranked team.

It's not a good comparison. What he's done at that crappy school is incredible, but acting like we should expect the same is ludicrous.
