You don’t think our future QB is on the roster because none of us have seen the other QB’s on the roster play decent minutes.

Heupel is loyal to a fault but if this season falls apart we end up 7-5/8-4 with no real playing time for Merk / Gmac, that seat is gonna get warm all offseason going into next year.

If we finish 9-3, people are going to be complaining about this season much more than they did for Arkansas last year or South Carolina in 2022.

The program for the first has actually regressed under Heupel. The worst thing he can do is roll into 2026 breaking in a new QB with zero experience. The wolves will be out for him after the first loss.

Nico should have absolutely gotten starts after we lost to Bama and we’re DQ’d from the East.

We would have likely seen we saw last year in his game or the coaches would have been able to spend the 2024 offseason working on his game.

This is no different from the NFL, once eliminated from the playoffs, time to focus on the future of the program. Especially considering the regression we are entering.

You lose money when you lose more games in NCAA and there is no draft. Money is talent. You need to win as many games as you can to try to get more in NIL. Agree to disagree about it being like the NFL because the way to acquire talent is totally different

I think whoever is the QB they want to highlight will play in the bowl game, unless they don’t think the QB of the future is on the roster

NFL has free agency. So does college. Highest bidder gets the player. Go 7-5 or 8-4 this year with no real answer on the QB going forward next year and let’s see how apathetic the donor base is with an already irked base over the Neyland Experience and talent tax that Danny White is frugal for.

Sorry, but no way I do that. Aguilar got screwed at UCLA and agreed to jump on board at UT last minute. He's worked his butt off and been a great team mate. He's performed way beyond my wildest expectations. If there's any player who deserves loyalty and the opportunity to finish what he started it's Joey Aguilar.

We have a bye week now and a powderpuff game in 2 weeks. It’s not exactly a short timeline to get the guys competing for the job for next year to get starter reps.

He’s getting paid to do his job just as getting paid a lot to get the program trending up.

If Heupel can’t hold together the locker room for focusing on the future considering we are going to have 2 monsters returning at Wideout with Matthews and Staley, it would be wise to get the hopeful heir Gmac or Merk some starter reps over the next two weeks and then against the cream puff school from New Mexico.

People are going to absolutely be out for Heupel’s head next season if we have no answer at QB because he thought spring practice was the only chance to evaluate the QB’s.

I love Aguilar but he’s getting paid for his service. There is hardly any downside if Heupel (he won’t because he’s scared) puts the long term health of the program first.

Hard to believe that DefendThisHouse has been here posting his rage after loses since 2006. Every time Tennessee loses he goes to
"Bench him" or "Fire him" no matter the situation and never posts when he likes what he is saying. It's a sad life when your emotional stablity is based around college football results as an adult.

He had an up and down night, but overall, I've been thrilled with Aguilar's play. He's not the problem. Even a "bad" night and he still had us in the game with a shot to win. As for next year's QB, it's a balancing act. If you go our and get a guy from the portal, you might lose GMac. I consider Merk as good as gone. As for Matthews and Staley, I won't be surprised if one or both aren't hot properties in the next portal. They know better than most what that QB room will look like next year and the schedule ahead. They might just take the opportunity to make a move. Personally, I expect this coming portal to be very, very active for UT....both ways. Still say if the right job gives Heupel a call, he'd be smart to move on and reset his clock.

For the record, I’m not saying bench Joey for his play. I’m saying since the playoffs are out of reach, the final 3 games are merely exhibition games.

I’d like to see Heupel show Matthews and Staley and Saunders and others what the future might look like. Hell Merk could be horrid and Gmac could be fine or vice versa. But at least the staff will know what they have in the QB position going into the offseason.

Still don't agree with benching a guy that has far exceeded expectations and throwing away games to get reps for next years possible starters.
