If we lose…

If we finish 7-5 or 8-4 with Aguilar and no significant playing time for Merklinger or Gmac, Heupel's seat will be warm going into next year, but not hot.

We have a somewhat favorable schedule next year. We go on the road to South Carolina, Vandy, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. Not terrible.
A brutal home schedule doesn’t make me feel any better.

Heupel needs to make a decision on playcalling and continue to run it or hire an OC with some actual experience and had it off.

There are plenty of DC’s likely going to be free agents this offseason. The only assistant I think that should be untouchable is RG.

Tim Banks is well regarded for HC jobs so it would be nice he got hired away to a G5 school. I don’t want Banks fired but there is gonna be a few guys who are free agents that would present an upgrade. Heupel has to be able to see that.
heupel lobbied to get him a 3 year contract after last year. I’d be shocked if he fired him. Probably hoping he gets another job and not try to keep him.

You can’t lose to Vandy ever. And this is a now or never type feel for winning in the swamp. I promise if we go 9-3 people will feel just fine about the program. Especially if you cap it with a 10th win in the bowl game.
Agree, but I think 7-5 is more likely. UF will play hard at home, and Vandy will be better prepared.

Anytime a Tennessee coach loses to Vandy their seat should get a bit warmer. I think we win that game. Florida, I just don't like our odds in the Swamp, no matter the team or the year.
Not sure we'll have enough juice left to handle Pavia and Vandy by that point. Heupel likely won't be on any hot seat after this season due to the Nico debacle. I give him a pass for that alone. One thing is certain. Heupel will take a look at that schedule next season and feel the weight of the portal world on his shoulders. He's going to need a ton of money to bring in a ton of help from the portal....and he's better hit on 90 percent of them. If not, next season might be really, really ugly. Then Heupel will be on the hot seat.

Loyalty is one of Heupel's character strengths, but it's looking like one of his biggest flaws as a head coach. Hiring friends leads you to be reluctant to make the hard decisions. Suspect this will eventually lead to his fall at UT.

I think we blow them out tbh. I don’t see a universe where they stop our offense. We’d have to self destruct like we did in the OU game.
You're expecting a team that has made mistakes in every conference game to finally "play clean" and blowout a team that is very disciplined and doesn't have a glaring weakness?

I’m reading the trajectory of this team since the Arkansas game and it isn’t good. Attitude, injuries, self-destruction seem to be becoming the status quo.

I like Heupel but I just don’t see how you can lose to every rival and Vandy in one year and not be on notice.

And maybe he won’t.

But I’m not liking the trajectory of this team right now.

The Netflix show where Pavia and Lea were talking smack. We have pride and don’t want to let those guys beat us. At least that what I hope.

Big accomplishment?, not necessarily but a good season

Going 10-3 with the implosions we had against Bama and Georgia will not be a good season. Especially with no clear direction on who’s running the show next year. There is no person on earth that can say getting game tape on Merk or Gmac in the final 3 games and bowl game this year is somehow worse than letting them fight it out in spring ball and the Orange and White game. I’m thankful for Aguilar but the season is over.

What he does in the offseason will tell whether he is a serious coach or not. It will tell whether the administration is serious about competing at the highest level. No changes, they will be content with the status quo as long as people keep ponying up their hard earned money
Hasn’t it been this way for 25 years?
This administration wins a “championship” every home $aturday.
The stuff that happens on the field is meaningless.
The hype department will put out a cool video on socials and we’ll all be drooling over ourselves for the “get right” New Mexico State game, where we’ll put up 60 points and all will be well.

I think a lot goes back to paying players. These aren't professionals under contract who can be cut/waived. These are college kids...many who might be making more than their position coach. They're paid no matter how they perform. Human nature for some to take the foot off the gas and coast. I'm sure some don't really care about winning and playoffs as long as the check arrives as usual. In short, the carrot of playing time and the dream of an NFL future has been replaced by complacency due to the money. Not saying all are that way, but I'd say a good number are.

There are a lot of HC jobs available, right now. Ain’t a single AD said, “what about Tim Banks?” Last year yes. This year, no way. He has one of the worst defenses in the country. No college is talking to him about HC job.

I will say within 3 years , Josh heupel winds up at Oklahoma….but as the offensive coordinator not the head coach . Don’t think he is head coaching material anymore .

I think Heupel needs to hire a OC and upgrade his DC. His playcalling is too predictable when you can call the play out from your couch. Too many times last night you saw OU cheat the linebackers toward the line when they were running the football. Unless you execute the play perfectly it's hard to have success when they know what's coming. Oline got whipped bad last night as well. ..

Same. I think they are good for a Vandy team but we're not a Dooley team and I also think this is more Vandy beating teams they used to lose to. Their 2 losses are to the best teams on their schedule on the road. I don't think it will be close.

They made the game close yesterday but they were thoroughly outplayed almost the entire game and Texas went soft at the end.

I read this, then read it again, and then read it again. Maybe not Oklahoma, but I can definitely see his next stop being as an OC at a P4 program.
