I feel confident he’s safe for 3 more years. Deservedly so. If not another playoff appearance in those three years it’d be time to explore options. If not at least two 9+ win years in the next three,I’d support looking elsewhere. Could still get 9 this year really but I’d still want 2 legit shots in the next three. Just be in the mix and not totally be out of it by early November.

This team is frustrating because they could be so much more. We have been, in spots, a great team. We have been, for the most part, underachievers.

It’s not a blame thing but Max missing a game winner is so par for the course. Then we fold in OT.

Pick 6 against Bama, actually come out strong in 3rd but fade in the end. Hurt ourselves more than they did.

Dominate a half but give ball away like Halloween candy. Drop a pass on 4th, miss a clutch FG (again), give up big run to seal the loss. Defense played well, Offense takes the night off.

Call it coaching, choking, bad luck or whatever but it comes down to confidence. Teams, players and coaches, that believe in themselves win more than not. We just don’t have the confidence needed to be great.

This QB has limitations obviously. The book is out on him. Get pressure and he'll turn it over. He's a serviceable QB , not a guy that can put on the cape and elevate your team against good defense. If you have anything behind him they need to play in two weeks for sure.

It's not confidence. It's not executing fundamentals on the field, which is a result of poor discipline, poor preparation, and poor coaching.

I have a very large problem with the fact we have 5 wins over P4 teams with Winning records (end of season) over the Past 3 seasons…and most of those were 7-6 teams.

9 win- Bama 24’

8 wins- Florida 24’

7 wins- Vandy 24’ Kentucky 23’ A&M 23’
Wow. That’s a stat.

With Heupel you’re always going to recruit good QBs and WRs. In theory that sets the floor at 8 wins. I’ll take that all day.

With a great defense he gets you into the playoffs. With a great defense AND a great running game he’s competing for a natty.

Last year was weird because our QB and WRs were bad but we beat Bama and Florida and went to the playoffs anyway.

This year the passing attack is great but our leading RB is a former walkon and the defense is bad.

Next year the running game should be back, but QB will be inexperienced. Defense??

Reality is the stars are going to align consistently with Heupel. I’m cool with that. Unfortunately most Vol fans are still living in the 90s
Fair post

The turnover on downs with a fourth and one was coming out of a time out where Heupel could not get a play in. The call was a quick pass to the third string tight end, Heupel can't process the in game adjustments and management of a successful on field performance with the assets he has and the skill set that drives his coaching devisions. Looks like Dooley out there arguing with the referees..

The 2025 Tennessee team is not tough, is not well coached in the finer points and techniques of the game you have to have to win big games and Heupel has lost the work ethic to build a winning program. Lose to Vanderbilt at home and White Danny will hear the checkbooks closing shut and the NIL pool will drop a level below capacity. Then he will have a serious problem.

It's NOT what he does in season, because it's over at that point, it everything he does off-season. I just don't think, at this level, he gets it. He's in charge so act like it!!!

Why do we need to wait 8 years for elite performance, when we are already paying Hype an elite salary?

Because it is a competitive field and we don’t have any better prospects. Nobody is a guaranteed success and firing a coach without a plan in this current college football landscape would be suicide.

Remember when the Browns ditch Baker because he still needed to grow and improve? If they had stuck with him versus where they ended up.

That is about a perfect reference to our current situation.

Yeah. I hear ya. 1 playoff in 5 coming from ground zero is a pretty good overall trajectory. If not at least 2 or 3 in 8 years on the job at Tennessee is weak. The state of college football with NIL,parity, and super conferences will make the playoff field look more and more random like march mardness. I think he’s like the 11th highest paid coach? Had we won tonight we’d be ranked 11 tomorrow. Tonight was a gut punch but no need to panic.

Heupel’s teams will be over .500, but doubtful they reach elite status. His decision making is suspect at best, and seems to be getting worse as the season progresses. Aguilar’s glaring stat, interceptions, is now coming to roost. Hope we can win 8 games this year.
