Dan Mullen. James Franklin. Chip Kelly. Mike Gundy. Charlie Strong. Bobby Petrino. Scott Frost.A lot of these coaches people here think they'd rather have: I remember when people were unhappy with Heupel because Sam Pittman was doing better than him at Arkansas in year one. At another point there was a contingent here that wanted Justin Fuente. I'm sure there are bunches of other examples.
I think we were closing to winning those two than losing your two. But sure, if you want to be a half empty kind of guy.
I mean he was wide ass open. They had it drawn up. Just didn’t execute. It happens.Season on the line and we put a freshman with 2 catches on the season in as the option.
That says everything.
If you can’t come up with a better play than that then you are not an offensive guru nor even mediocre.
We have issues.
I think that's more than fair. I might even say four losses would be disappointing.I am more of a you are what your record says you are kind of guy. If we end with 3 losses, I would say Heupel did a good job with this team. 4 lossss and it was what most though it would be. 5 losses, most will be disappointed. We'll see what our record says we are in a few weeks.
Yeah outbidding Indiana would be difficult especially with the LSU sitiation making headlines. 64 is still not a bad age I mean some people on here is wishing Urban Meyer or even Nick Saban being the coach and they are 61 and 74 respectively. He’s already making $9 million a year at Indiana and they’re clearly willing to commit resources to him there. Why leave?
Also, he’s 64.
With the talent this team has 4 losses would be disappointing. Young or not young. I had 3 as the floor. At 4 loses we are not making improvement. We gave away this game in the first half and the Georgia game wasn’t very well executed by the coaches at the end. In this era if you’re not making the playoff 2 out of 3 years or 3 out of 5 you’re not going to last. And it’s the continued bungled plays and time management and the same mistakes. I am willing to see how we close, but I will say if Heupel doesn’t make any changes and we don’t make playoffs next year he won’t survive. And I have been fully supporting him. But if you’re going to be competive in the SEC you can’t settle for 8-4 or even 9-3 for 3 out of 4 years. You got to win a majority of big games, especially at home and we blew 2 big ones at home this year. GBOI am more of a you are what your record says you are kind of guy. Within the past 2 seasons you’ve seen every component of a championship caliber team on the field for tennessee. You just haven’t seen them on the same team. The stars will align eventually. And really that’s all we can hope for in today’s era of college football.Yea I have 0 faith that He is going to do everything that needs to be done to be at a championship level. Extra SEC game makes it tougher. Everything needs to improve
Well finishing 8-4 and 9-3 every year will not cut it. We are not a sound football team. I know we’re young in many spots but we are 9 games in abd continue to make the same mistakes and blunders. When we have the chance to jump on somebody we reach down and help them get back in it. If one side of the ball plays good the other finds away to screw the pooch. Heupel has some good qualities but if he gets stubborn and don’t evaluate the weaknesses of this team and staff he isn’t going to make it. This team has trouble with the most basic fundamental things. What’s sad is the defense gave us a chance to put our foot on them in the first half and we blew it. Year 5, Heupel has to do some soul searching. GBOHeupel is a very good OC. He's just an OK head coach. Clock management, game management, staff loyalty, reluctance to trust the staff he's hopelessly loyal to...all areas where he could improve. Until he does, he won't reach his potential as a head coach. He's not going anywhere and I'm not advocating that he should, but he needs to improve in the areas he clearly struggles with if we are going to pay him and supply him with resources like he's an elite coach.
