Josh is not the guy

Heupel is a very good OC. He's just an OK head coach. Clock management, game management, staff loyalty, reluctance to trust the staff he's hopelessly loyal to...all areas where he could improve. Until he does, he won't reach his potential as a head coach. He's not going anywhere and I'm not advocating that he should, but he needs to improve in the areas he clearly struggles with if we are going to pay him and supply him with resources like he's an elite coach.

Say I'm overreacting all you want. He does not get our players ready to play in the critical games. He is not a horrible coach, but he will not win a Championship at UT. If you're okay with that fine, I'm personally not. Flame me all you want for this take, I've seen enough. Kirby is out here and his players win games that they play like trash in, ours play well and dominate and still lose, and lose because of stupid mistakes, dropped passes, bad playing calling on both D and O, and poor overall preparation and coaching.
It’s facts

Not the year to try and hire a coach. I’d like to see what this team does with a healthy defense. People forget we lost multiple defensive players to the draft and our two best corners have been out all season, both probably high draft picks. Not excusing some of the questionable play calling but when your offense has to keep you in the game it’s much harder to win
Offense was why we lost tonight. In fact, in the games we’ve lost we’ve had 8 turnovers….oh and 2 missed FGs.

In order to be ELITE, you cannot beat yourself.

He was also a play or two away from losing to MSU and Arkansas and being firmly on the bowl bubble.
I think we were closing to winning those two than losing your two. But sure, if you want to be a half empty kind of guy.

Why? What’s he won?
He was 11-2 last year losing to only Ohio State and Notre Dame in the first round of the playoffs, and this year he is undefeated beating Oregon which was ranked 3rd in the nation at that time which is Oregons only loss. But like what Volz4lif3 said is going to be extremely hard to get him out of Indiana but he might be enticed going to the SEC if approached.

It needs to be said only once. You're overreacting. It's ok. He's not going anywhere. People that forgot more than you know do not share your opinion. No one other than reactionary know-nothings are in your corner. Stay angry and clueless. The extra hour of sleep will likely have no effect on your mindset. Heupel is here to stay for awhile and most of us are glad
I love Heupel. But at some point we’re watching the same 🎥 and expecting a different ending. He’s brought stability and he’s a good coach. But the enemy of great is good.

I know it’s not easy to win but ultimately, he’s the HC and the buck stops with him. He needs to be accountable and do a better job of having us ready to play these games.

We got very fortunate against Arkansas and Mississippi State. Sometimes it feels like we win in spite of coaching and that can’t happen.

He’s got 3 years…if in 3 years we’re not in a FF or NC game, it’s not gonna happen

He’s already making $9 million a year at Indiana and they’re clearly willing to commit resources to him there. Why leave?

Also, he’s 64.

Totally agree

If you haven’t seen that heupel can’t get it done against top competition. I don’t know what else to say to you..
I’ve been skeptical about Heupel from the beginning! I really wanted to believe he was the man but then he regresses and reminds me of why I felt that way to start with! I see that he had grown too comfortable with his high paying gig and feels that the Tennessee fans and alumni will give him unlimited time to show that the program is a real consistent contender in the conference! The writing had been on the wall since 2022 heupel is ok but will never be great! He is our mark richt 8 maybe 9 wins a year and that’s it!

A lot of these coaches people here think they'd rather have: I remember when people were unhappy with Heupel because Sam Pittman was doing better than him at Arkansas in year one. At another point there was a contingent here that wanted Justin Fuente. I'm sure there are bunches of other examples.
