The Official #14 Tennessee vs. #18 Oklahoma Game Thread, 7:30 PM ET, ABC

You’re crazy if you think Heupel is going to tank the rest of the year to get a back up some experience

Going into next season with Gmac or Faizon having virtually zero experience is what will land Heupel on the hot season by October. This is a business. If we go 7-5/8-4 this year and it is clear we are breaking in a new young QB next year, the dread / apathy will cloud linger all offseason. If we go 7-5/8-4 with Merklinger or Gmac showing some flashes, that gives hope going into the offseason.

This isn't that hard. We should have done the same with Nico in 2023 after we lose to Bama and had 5 games left in the regular season, but were eliminated from winning the SEC East.

This isn't personal. It is a business.

I’m officially off of the Heupel train. He’s a loser that is acceptable of mediocrity and accepts a pathetic DC without considering an upgrade. Banks will take Heupel down because Heupel allowed it. This loss is beyond disgusting. There is no excuse. Heupel is a loser. A mediocre coach at best. I seriously hope the my Vols lose the remaining of their games to that Danny White forces Heupel to grow a set to fire his DC, DB, and WR coaches. This team is hard to watch as a result of their ability to allow lesser teams a chance to win. Vanderbilt will kick out butts. This has been a disgusting night of football.
You hope the Vols lose??

I'm just not willing to write him off yet.
You don't have to...I think we'll play this 7-9 win dance for about 5 more seasons than they'll probably be a mutual parting of ways at some point.

Someday someone is going to wake up and say "OMG we haven't won out own conference in _____ years"

For those of you counting , were currently at 27 years. It won't be much longer until we can say "3 decades"

We should have won this game, but didn’t deserve to win it. We had more yards, more 1st downs, only 3 penalties, our defense only gave up 2 touchdowns. They had to kick 4 field goals, 3 from over 50 yards. Despite all of that we turned the ball over 3 times, missed what should have been an easy field goal, made bad play calls, mismanaged the clock and dropped critical passes.

Every SEC game we find ways to beat ourselves or almost beat ourselves.
Yeap, that about sums up all ya need to know.

Unfortunately we weren't going to make it with that defense, and if we somehow did, it wouldn't have been too far. And it seems as if the D even declined as the season went on. Sure felt like it to me. Must have put a lot on film over time this year.

Absolutely most disappointing night ever in Neyland. Dark Mode let down
I thought this team had a certain kind of fight and togetherness…we do but our HC is mismanaging it. Such a disappointment. Joey had a bad game but honestly, this goes beyond him. Team wasn’t ready to play and that’s on YOU JOSH.

He’s got 3 years to have us in a Natty…college football is a sh*tshow. And we can’t even get out of our own way. What an embarrassment.

This is year 5. You have one of the best NIL budgets. Recruiting does not match the budget, wins do not match the budget, and coaching does not match the budget. Other teams win the big games consistently. We don’t. Just calling balls and strikes. Better win out.

And the schedule next season (and the following season) is much, much more difficult.....

Heupel is an ok coach..... Team will likely finish 8-4.

So next season ---- welp ---- I think Heupel will be looking for a job....

season is over.......... Vols will have several more losses.... and Heupel will be the guy that loses to Vandy....
Won't be the only one. I was there in 2018. I believe the final was vols 17 and candyland 50 or something like that.
