'25 Recruiting Forum: Official Tennessee versus Oklahoma Pre-game/Game Thread

If Heupel gets canned in a a year or two this would have been the start of the decline. I just have lost hope in this coaching staff, defense has been bad and now without a really good system QB we just can’t win. It is what it is… hope this passes and we start to see improvement… but being freaking Tennessee and not being a top 12 team in the nation is just not acceptable.

People will defend over Heup to death over decisions that a peewee coach makes… yet yall pounce when he makes a good decision
There is nothing wrong with the play call, but it’s perfectly fine to be pissed at him for calling that play for a true freshman TE instead of Ethan Davis or Miles Kiselman. It was incredibly stupid.

Love you Smokey and we’re usually on the same page, but you don’t sit/not throw to a guy in low pressure situations all year just to trust him in that spot.
You trust your players to make the plays when you put them in position. Van gives ou a run run look and they committed to it. They didn’t even guard him on the route. There’s zero chance we get that with Ethan Davis in there. The play was there and OU had no idea what was coming

Yep

No excuse in year ****ing 5

I appreciate everything Heupel has done to get this program heading back in the right direction but it's obvious he will never win anything of significance here. I guess i can't be too mad about 8-10 win seasons.

He needs help. Badly.
He isn’t meticulously detailed oriented, and every week it shows….

You know who’s teams don’t make major mistakes like ours do, WELL COACHED TEAMS
Every game this year we’ve had some bad bad bad offensive series. Play calling has been very suspect more than I think people want to admit. Defense needs a new philosophy. There is no killer instinct.

I understand how that can look at first but this is my response.

The play call was good. Choosing to throw it to a freshman TE who we haven’t targeted all year was the bad part. Davis or someone else that isn’t shell shocked the ball is coming his way is the obvious choice.
Smokey makes a good point, the play call isn't good if Davis is the guy. It was only a wide open look because the kid is only used for run blocking, so they ignored him.
