#9 Vanderbilt Commodores @ #20 Texas Longhorns (SEC on abc) Noon

Well, at least this we can agree on! C’mon SMU!

You realize now that this is what the playoff looks like with Vandy losing. Right now that 11th spot comes down to a 10-2 Notre Dame, 10-2 Tennessee. Notre Dame plays a likely 7 loss Stanford team the final week of the season while Tennessee will be playing a Top 15-18 ranked Vandy. You tell me which one is better? There is no world where a 10-1 Vandy who would likely be in the #7-8 ranked spot losing to us would somehow vault us up into the playoff easier than the current scenario. A 5th SEC getting in the playoff became possible with Penn State imploding and assuring that the Big Ten wouldn't return to the playoff with 4 teams like last year. Even if Texas is ranked ahead of us in the initial playoff ranking this week, they won't survive Georgia and A&M.

Because we have done that so much this year right? SMH

Yes. We have indeed made several stops this year. Our last two games (on the road mind you), the defense has held the opponent to under 50% scoring drives. Bama scored 4 out of 9 possessions. Kentucky scored a net 4 times on 12 possessions. Net because they scored 5 touchdowns, but our defense scored a touchdown on them to negate 1.

Good Lord, dude. I do not agree with you and I think your reasoning is flat-out wrong. I objected to you calling me a “lunatic” and a “clown” because I felt a Vandy loss today hurts us more than helps us in the long run, and while you may not agree, I also have good reasons for what I think. I understand what you are saying—I simply do not agree that Vandy losing today helps us more than us beating Vandy with a better record.

Also, that 11 spot will be Notre Dame’s. They will not be left out at 10-2 for a 5th SEC team at 10-2. They also destroyed an Arkansas team we squeaked by when it comes to common opponents.

Miami losing, however, may open some space!

You for some reason think the SEC won't get 5 teams in the playoff. I think that is indeed foolish considering they first 3 teams out of the playoff were SEC schools last year.

The Big Ten won't get 4 teams in like last year, so that means another conference has to get another team in. There will likely be 7 SEC teams in the Top 15 of the initial CFP rankings this Tuesday.

The only thing Miami does is make Notre Dame's case harder because you can't have a 10-2 Notre Dame over a 10-2 Miami given the head to head.

We are more than fine.

Let’s just hope tonight TN plays like a team worthy of being in the playoff conversation. So far this season they haven’t. And the wins aren’t exactly quality.

The quality of wins don’t matter. We have beaten the team we are supposed to and played close games against the teams that beat us.

We will have quality wins down the stretch.

If the SEC gets 5 in regardless, who are the 5 getting in over UT if Vandy won today and Vols win out.

The 5th team would come down to winner of Tennessee and Vandy.

A&M
Alabama
Georgia
Ole Miss
10-2 Vandy or Tennessee

Yeah, exactly. Today’s game was about the quality of that win. It matters either way in the optimal scenario, why not have it against a top 10 team vs a team who might be out of the top 25 with the third loss. Vandy will likely be our best win if we can win out.

That’s if you believe 5 get in with no worse than 2 losses.

Because Vandy would be comfortably in the playoff at 10-1 coming into our game and we would need to win and have help because beating them wouldn’t simply cause us to take their spot. At least now, there is a toss up for 2 final spots among 3 teams now as it stands (10-2 Vandy/Tennessee, 10-2 Miami, 10-2 Notre Dame)

Texas will not go 2-0 vs A&M / Georgia
Texas Tech/BYU play next week so one of them will drop

Our path to being in the playoff is much easier with Vandy and Miami losing today than had it been just Miami losing.

Miami losing is great for the SEC…hopefully a two loss Miami is behind a two loss Tennessee.

This year it’s looking like the SEC and Big 10 flip flop…we’ll get 4 teams in and they’ll get 3 in terms of the sure things (provided TAMU, Bama, Georgia and Ole Miss don’t stumble)…then we’ll have the Big 12 and ACC champs and the highest ranked group of 6…

so it all comes down to those last two slots and our chances of getting a 5th team in get better the more ACC teams get eliminated…I hate to pull for Georgia but we may need them to beat Tech badly and then have Virginia beat Tech in the ACC game…that might keep the ACC to a single team…

So it could be ND and Tennessee getting the last two slots…but there will be an extreme amount of pushback about having 5 teams from one conference

There is no flip flop. Big Ten got 4 in last year and so did the SEC. They’ll combine to get 8 in this year. It will just be a 5:3 ratio instead of 4 each courtesy of Penn State.

Also there may be pushback but you can’t have 6-7 teams from the SEC ranked inside the Top 15 and not have at least 5 teams in. He’ll last year there were 3 9-3 teams on the bubble in addition to the 4 we got in.

The SEC had three teams last year Texas, Georgia and Tennessee…

Yikes. For some reason I had Clemson of all schools in the SEC. We would have had 4 ifSMU didn’t rally in second half of the ACC title. Regardless, the Big Ten and SEC will combine for 8 teams.
