Nuclear option to end government shutdown?

Should the nuclear option be used to open up the government?

Had Trump proposed this 4 months ago, at the height of his power, they might have done it. But already the Senate leadership is taking the long view and realizing they have to draw the line somewhere.

It's simple, Senators and Congressppl should not get paid during a shut down

For sure, though that doesn't present a problem for Congress nearly as much as the lack of pay hurts TSA, VA, the military and such. Some Congressmen will struggle, but far more can weather the storm indefinitely.

But then a shutdown would never happen, they're so greedy they wouldn't allow it.

Federal employees will get paid for this time they are out. As mentioned else where, they are on vacation.

I believe that the word here "leadership" is a misnomer.

Totally get that, but it's harder to wait for backpay when you live paycheck-to-paycheck than when you have an eight-figure net worth.
This will draw fire, but why are fully employed government employees living paycheck to paycheck? I know there are some that have had catastrophes. Those I get. But others that have over leveraged themselves... do I need to feel sorry for them? Why?

then we will be in a perpetual war.
Hmmmm. My first thought was they would get voted out of office. But we put up with the longest war in our history without voting out anyone who kept it going longer. Could be argued it helped keep Hillary out of being POTUS I guess.

Yeah. A consideration. Perhaps a formally declared war makes a difference?

doubtful. they will just formally declare a war on afghanistan/terrorism. keep some troops in some sand pit indefinitely with no real goal other than to maintain the war so they can keep spending.

There isn’t a hardcore American who puts America first who would be ok with our military not being paid.

Probably why Mellon donated 130 million and the military accepted it.

In my perceptive the ranking goes God first then military. Soldiers willing to risk their lives for my freedom deserve being paid even when no one else is.

…..well maybe not the Air Force 😂
Air Farce you mean amirite

Dems have already shown their hand that they are willing to end the filibuster

I doubt Trump will get his end to the filibuster. He wants it because then he won't have to work with Democrats. He has to learn to work with them. We need bipartisanship. I don't think Collins, Murkowski, Fetterman or Paul will go for nuking it. I support the filibuster. I think they'll get an end to this shutdown in the next week

Dems aren't going to "work" with Trump or any Republican for that matter. The definition of working with the Dems is caving to their demands.

That's a big problem with the country right now. Bipartisanship accomplished productive legislation in the Reagan and Clinton years. Congress isn't accomplishing anything now. We'll never solve these three big problems without bipartisanship:

1) Healthcare
2) Immigration Reform
3) Deficit
