Iām the same age as you. The Vols were an average or below program for several years before Doug Dickey got here. His rebuilding job is similar to what CJH had to do when he arrived. I always hated Dickey for leaving to go to Fla, but he coached us to great heights before he left.I was 12 years old and sitting on about the 40th row in Section A. Cannon absolutely did not make it..
Great day for my adopted hometown of Athens, Jim Cartwright and Wayne Grubb.
I was there and almost froze my tail off. Stopping Cannon on the two point try took all the heart out of LSU. Our defense seemed to get stronger as the 4th quarter played out. One of the great wins by a Tennessee football team.I was 12 years old and sitting on about the 40th row in Section A. Cannon absolutely did not make it..

Yep, them teams in the late 60ās could have easily won it all. They were highly competitive during that era. GBOIām the same age as you. Talk about memory lane! I watched the end of that game on a 21ā black and white tv on the wall at newly opened Brown Derby down on Kingston Pike! A couple of vol legends had just opened the Derby. Remember Ray Elkas and Gordon Polofsky? It was years later that I learned Gordon was an All American linebacker for Neylands championship 1951 Vols!Just one week after Cannon's famous punt return against Ole Miss on Halloween night in Baton Rouge.
