The Film Guy picks VOLS big...

I think SP+ has UGA with the 19th ranked defense, and that number adjusts for opponent quality and pace. I’d say UGA is not in the top tier of defenses: really good, but not at the highest level. OK probably is in a higher tier—schematically and with personnel.

Transitive property is tough in football, but sometimes it’s the best we’ve got. Ole Miss did to UGA about what Tennessee did to UGA. Ole Miss also did to OK about what it did to UGA. So Tennessee could do to OK about what Tennessee did to UGA, which was pretty impressive.

I think yall will score on them. I worry that Venables will rely on some late safety rotation to try to disguise a deep safety and bring an additional player forward against the run or to cover short. Just sitting back doesn’t sound like Venables.
I just don't think there's enough players on the field to cover all we are capable of doing. The main issue will be if OU can get pressure with just the DL, which I don't really see happening, and even if they do Aguilar is damn good making decisions and escaping pressure. Has OU actually played a QB as good as ours?

I just think we have too much we can do. Nico missed high on all his middle passes, couldn't reliably hit the long ball, and read the field too slow (I think old Jeffy-boy still has Nico in mind when he sees the QB position). Aguilar has demonstrated that his main flaw is throwing the ball a little too hard on short routes...I just don't think OU has seen a complete offense other than one this season, and even that one didn't have a QB at quite the same level as we have.

FYI, SP+ also predicted OU to beat Ole Miss last week.

The only offense OU's defense has faced just finished shredding them up last week. We're statistically (and actually probably in reality) better than Ole Miss with the ball. Mateer is turning pretty mid-tier, and we're at home in OU's second actual road game of the year. We're going to win big.
Yes. I have full confidence we will win easily. Oklahoma hasn't faced an offense like ours all season (statistically we are the best in the SEC), and they have to face it on the road.

I honestly don't know why the the line keeps tightening up. It's baffling to me.

They are smoking crack all around. How many great defenses has CJH and this offense "shredded"? Clue... not many. We only scored 20 against Bama's average defense. OU's defense is MUCH better. OU will do exactly what every other good/great defense does against us... bracket cover the outside to prevent the chunk and load the box to stop the run. That leaves those tough, over the middle throws, that Joey struggles with completing. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm pretty confident. I'm not calling a loss, but this 14+pt win is absurd.

Funny thing, but when you shred a defense, it drops in the statistical rankings. Plus you provide tendencies subsequent opponents use to attack the defense.

I’ve no faith our secondary will learn to tackle this week, but if we play a clean game on offense we’ll win going away.

Again... You are comparing UK's defense to OU's. You all know he has a tendency to throw those high. It's happened more than a few times. But ya'll do you. I guess we'll see come Sunday AM.
You failed to address your erroneous take on bracketing receivers and loading the box. JA hasn't had an issue with throwing high since the MSU game. Also the receivers haven't had an issue with drops since the MSU game. That take is overblown. Yes Ark bracketed Brazzell and took him out of the game, but Staley had 100 yards and Matthews and Kitselman combined for over a 100 yards. Staley had a bad drop earlier in the year but has been balling out since the MSU game.

All fair. Defenses can’t stop everything. I think the adjustments this year to attack the middle more has made the offense much more potent. And, no, I don’t think they’ve played a QB as good as Aguilar.

Agree 100%. It was something missing with Nico and with Milton, and that makes the other guy's take about being unable to throw slants even more baffling.

Good thing we fired Glen Elarbee after last season. That guy is a terrible recruiter and cannot develop talent.

GREAT POINT. Elarbee deserves much credit for having one of the best Olines in the SEC this year.

Just as many people wanted to fire Pope at WR coach as well. All he has done is turn Brazzell into perhaps the best WR in the nation (def best in SEC).
Also has ALL 3 starting WRs in the top10 in the SEC this year despite 2 of them having almost ZERO college experience. Matthews barely played last season and didnt score a TD until the last game vs Vandy on plays specifically designed for him to score in the red zone. Staley didnt play at all last year. Admittedly some of the credit for the #1 passing offense in the SEC goes to CJH, Halze, and Joey for getting our QB up to speed since May...but Joey isnt throwing any of those passes to himself and the WRs have a much larger share of yards and TDs than TEs compared to last year. Pope has done an outstanding job...just like Elarbee.

My favorite thing Pope has done is land the #1WR in the nation for 2026...as well as THE #1 WR class in the nation with 4 guys so incredibly talented that they could all be dominant SEC starters eventually.
Tristen Keys
Salesi Moa
Tyreek King
Legend Bey
Those 4 guys are ridiculous. Every one of them has Mike Matthews talent.
Never heard of a team cleaning out their WR room like we did last year. Starting a season with 6 freshmen/RS freshmen plus Brazzell. We are gonna be so loaded at WR for the next couple years...its crazy.

I would like to see this bracket coverage with a loaded box. Can you show us some diagrams?

If they bracket cover the outside and load the box, Staley will go for 200 yards. Kitselman and Davis will have big days also. By the way they can't bracket both outside receivers and load the box at the same time. Can't bring safeties down into the box and bracket the receivers at the same time, physically impossible.
Their planning on playing 15 on D.

I don't believe he's thrown a single INT this year on a high throw over the middle.

He's thrown 6 INTs this year, only 2 of which have been his fault, and neither was on a high throw over the middle of the field.
He has definitely floated some passes over the middle, Kits has tipped more than a couple.

Vols by at least 7 , probably 10 to 13.
as a Sooner fans , I can tell you Mateer has disappointed, despite his early success, the wins turned out to be against mediocre teams ( michigan and Auburn ). He made huge mistakes against texas and ole Miss .
The only way OU wins is shutting down the pass game of angular with pressure . The DBs at OU are not as elite as the DL and Lbs .
i have no ides how Georgia got lucky and won that game against the vols . I was so upset with the missed FG , but it should not have come to thst if their qb did not have his best game ever :(

UGA has the 25th ranked D. Bama is the 24th ranked D. We scored plenty against UGA and only 20 against Bama. OU's total D is 5th. IMO, 20 pts won't beat OU. They are going to score on us without much resistance. See UK who is absolutely DREADFUL on offense. Sorry if I don't think that we are going to get a dbl digit win. I've seen this movie many times.
Who has Oklahoma played vs who those teams played? Yea.....

Not only am I surprised they all picked double digits wins, I hate that almost everyone is picking Tenn.

All 3 guys had us holding OK to 20….I just don’t see how we can hold anybody to 20 the way we’ve been playing D lately. I sure hope they’re right!
You gotta look at the real stats about our defense. Don't let all of the whining and complaining get you caught up. Then, dive into the matchups. Finally, it's Neyland @ Night. We'll be whipping their ass.
