He only spent two years there. He won a national title there as the QB so he accomplished the goal. Heup values loyalty over nostalgia.

The biggest thing we need to worry about is a Mike Hamilton situation. If UT screws up and hires a generational looser as AD, anything could happen. There is no way he would leave as long as UT is good to Josh and his family. Knoxville, Tennessee is an amazing place to raise a family. The current leadership is giving CJH everything he needs to compete at the highest level. The fanbase here is second to none as well. Let's just not screw it up.

Good post. Facts.

Danny White catches lots of crap because of ticket prices etc but the guy was a bottom of the 9th, Grand Slam out of the park hire. We are already the most successful athletic program in the SEC...2 years now running...but more importantly he made THE right hire in CJH when even most people in sports media said "who?". He has kept HOF Coach Barnes happy and the BasketVols well funded and more successful than ever before. He made another CJH type hire for our LadyVols basketball team...Kim is gonna be a FinalFour fixture here now that shes getting top5 recruiting classes on roster. He made the right move according to me and the vast majority of players, former players, BaseVol fans, recruits, and everyone else by promoting Elander to HC after Tony understandably left. We have a great Softball team every year...the list is endless. He seems to always make the the right move when it comes to what I feel is THE most important aspect of his job as AD...getting GREAT coaches and then giving them what they need to be dominant in their sport. Those responsible for bringing in Danny and keeping him here have brought about the Golden Age of Tennessee sports. As a 48yo guy who suffered the misery of 2005-2020...I am very thankful. We have great teams in every season to watch and support now. Most importantly, football is more exciting now than ever and I was a huge fan in the 90s and big Fulmer supporter back then. Go VOLS

This is a clownish reaction. The governor is hardly going to be involved in things. He just had an ax to grind with Woodward being a failed AD. Landry won't be directing this coaching search.

They do. But they also have money. And if you don't know money overcomes everything else right now. And if you don't believe me then explain how the #1 edge in the 2027 class (before reclassifying) located in Georgia's backyard ended up at Texas Tech.

Guy that is a six figure plus booster at LSU said they are going after CJH. Take if for what it’s worth right now. Probably idle gossip

The governor is one of the ones who pushed for BK to be fired. Considering LSU's long history of allowing the Governor to have major influence over their program, wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea that he'll be heavily involved in picking the next coach.

He absolutely could leave. Pay him enough and we don’t pony up, he would be gone. I’ve known some of these guys and even had one P4 guy in basketball say make it while you can cause most of us are hired to be fired.

Or his dad could move to Knoxville and have dinner with his son and his grandchildren every night. The times I lived close to my parents, I was eating with my wife and kids. Not with my parents.

Heupel isn't leaving Tennessee for another college program short of maybe his Alma mater. And even if presented with that option - I have no question that he'd have a considerable amount to think about. LSU wasn't poaching a sitting Tennessee head coach even when they weren't a complete dumpster fire. The 2025 LSU melt down looks as bad or worse than what happened with Tennessee and Schiano. After the last week I guarantee that coaches are seeing how toxic that entire environment is right now. Our Athletic Department as a whole and Tennessee football in particular has everything in place to win at the highest level right now. And we're doing that across all sports.

NIL collective, University leadership, The facilities, fanbase, great city/state/col, donors, infrastructure, etc. It's all in place. Add in how much NIL & the transfer portal has immediately changed the college landscape with roster composition and the parity that's brought to the sport. The days of a handful of schools hoarding elite talent is largely over moving forward. The rules changes in regards to the transfer portal has changed recruiting. The really talented guys riding the bench for 2-3 years at places like Bama, LSU, etc. are significantly harder to keep on roster with players being paid to transfer and getting immediate playing time. All you have to do is look at the Top 25 right now to see the impact. #2 Indiana, #7 Ole Miss, #8 Georgia Tech, #9 Vanderbilt, #13 Texas Tech, etc. If the donors, University leadership, & NIL collective are all in alignment - you can win big anywhere in this environment.

Tennessee & Danny White are in flow state right now and they've proven this is a destination job again. Don't let the stench of 2008-2021 Tennessee football have you believing this can't be one of the best jobs in the country with competent leadership and alignment.

In the last few years alone Tennessee has:

Baseball: 1 National Championship, 3 CWS appearances, 2 SEC Championships & 2 SEC Tournament Championships

Basketball: 1 SEC Championship, 1 SEC Tournament Championship, Back to Back Elite 8s

Football: 1 CFP Appearance, 11 win season

And that's not counting all of the accolades in softball, soccer, tennis, women's basketball, etc.


There hasn't been a more successfull Athletic Department in the SEC across the Big 3 sports over the last several years. Coaches are looking for stability & competetive salaries for themselves and their staff. More Universities are going to be able to retain coaches that would have historically been poached by elite programs (Like Cignetti & IU for example) due to how drastically the CFB landscape has evolved. All that said, OU might be the one program that could grab Heupel with it being his Alma mater, but that's the only reason I could see a sitting HC leaving for another opportunity. And even that isn't a slam dunk with how everything went down with Stoops making Heupel a scapegoat & their subsequent falling out. We're in a great place right now and moving forward.

LOL! If we end up losing today or down the road to Florida or Vandy, which is very likely with this defense, you won't have to worry about it. Almost everyone in here will be screaming for Danny White to fire him.

The bottom line is what is best for your family. It's always that, even if you think it's something else. But money is always a significant factor in that calculation. Sometimes it's the biggest factor. Imagine what you would be willing to do, what you would be willing to give up, for an extra $2 million in annual income. How would that alter thr lives of your children?
