Tennessee is 97th in the country in defensive stop rate. Ohio State is #1.

Are you saying that Ohio State who spent the most on their team last year was a surprise to win a title? Wow!

And that this year they are spending $35m on their roster and are a lock to go back to the CFP is a surprise? Wow!
As I see it; it's not what they/we are spending, it's what they/we are getting for the money. I have said it before and will continue to say it until things change. "we need better evulations of the players we purchase from the portal".

You do realize that teams like Indiana and Ohio State can go thru a 9 game conference schedule and play 6 teams with losing records, name the last time Tennessee ended a SEC schedule playing 6 straight games against teams with losing records? or like Indiana last year where they went an entire season and didn't even play a team with a winning record until 2nd week of November
Are we moving goal posts here? This thread was all about Tennessee’s defensive stop rate. Now we’re talking about how weak Big Ten team schedules are.

We had our chance to make a statement on that last year. How did it go against Ohio State?

I think the Cignetti admiration has more to do with how they have improved above their historical norm and less to do with who they've beaten.
It's easy to "improve their historical norm" when you cancel all P4 OOC games for a decade, and then beat a bunch of terrible teams.

The only difference between Indiana's record now and in 2019-2020 is they don't play the top Big Ten teams every season and they don't get beat to teams by 40

Hell even Iowa almost beat them this season and they barely can register a first down.

Other than a coaching malpractice job by Lanning, Indiana has yet to beat ONE team they haven't been favored by.

Ohio State was the best team in the country, and UT was without Sampson and the Nico drama.

Tennessee would've crushed any other Big Ten team last year like they usually do....Tennessee is 13-6 against the Big Ten for a reason... Ohio St is 9-14-1 against the SEC for the same reason

How does all of that help us this year?

If we play Indiana or Oregon in the playoffs or Michigan or Illinois or USC in a bowl game we will beat them.

Ohio State could go either way
Bless your heart. I admire your faith in a defense that couldn’t stop a nosebleed. That “stop ranking” will likely rear its’ ugly head (again) before this season is over. Hopefully the offense can score enough to carry the day.

Yes, I realize this…do realize we have an easy schedule and to date havent beaten anyone? I’m certainly hoping we win out and will have two decent wins but just don’t get too excited about other people’s schedules

The Indiana offense is pretty good. A great D might stop them but outr D would give up tons of points.

Maybe Ohio State gets caught by someone who just goes red hot like they did last year. Oregon wasn't as good defensively as them last year but they looked just as dominant and destined to win a natty until Michigan pissed off the buckeyes

I don’t know about Indiana or Oregon in a CFP game bc they’re both very good , but we’d boat race Illinois in a regular season game. I don’t like putting out predictions for bowl games bc you rarely know who will play and what the motivations might be.

I bet they have a hard time staying #1 this weekend against the offensive juggernaut that is Penn St. It really is crazy how they’re able to be so dominant week in and week out . Then they get Purdue, UCLA and Rutgers. No weeks off in the B1G. Or is it no weeks on?
This Is just silly to say after they dogwalked us last year and we just let Kentucky put up Tim Couch numbers with Mark Stoops as coach

shouldn't compare schedules when you lose to every team
that has a winning record. What good does it do to have the
hardest schedule in the country and you never win against a team
that is favored over you?

Some folks have imaginary problems…we just need to win and not worry about others…

Add in that grueling 9 game conference schedule and it really is amazing that they can play that many games and still play no one.

It’s absurd how much $hit the B1G admins, coaches (Cignetti) and media members talked about the SEC all offseason and adding a 9th game and you see the difference in the conference, it’s crazy.

Here’s PSU’s schedule next season. Not listed are brutal OOC teams, Temple, Buffalo and Marshall

Now someone compare our schedule with theirs. It’s not close

Ohio State has spent more on their roster this year and last year than Brian Kelly's buyout. I for one am shocked they are defending champs and likely to finish the regular season #1

The reason they won last year wasn’t the portal, it helped, but it wasn’t bc they signed a bunch of guys. They won because they paid a lot of $ to guys who would’ve been 3rd round or later guys to stay on campus for their 4th and 5th years. Yeah they added Downs bc Saban left, Judkins and the QB from K State, but the formula Michigan and Ohio State have followed the last 2 years have mostly been keeping their developed old guys on campus and sprinkling in some pieces in the portal. I think overall Heupel and the staff have done a great job in the portal with their additions. I do think adding a WR or safety would’ve been good to this last class though.

This is unacceptable. Sure a drop off from losing guys from last year but 97th??? It would be hard to understand 50th!
