I've often wondered if this is part of what led to Stoops deciding to retire so early. Everything I've read says he hasn't really had much contact with Heupel since this moment.

The Sooners had gone 31-8 the first 3 years that Heupel and Norvell shared OC duties, which included a sugar bowl victory over Bama in the 2013 season. Then they had an 8-5 2014 season and outside pressure seemingly forced Stoops to make a change. Norvell hasn't had quite the success Heupel has, but he also ended up becoming a head coach, having a decent tenure at Nevada before moving to the CSU job which he of course just recently got fired from. But safe to say Heupel and Norvell weren't exactly problems, but seemingly were made to be scape goats.

Stoops only coached two more seasons after that, both successful 11-2 campaigns, before retiring at the age of 56.

Obviously a billion different things could have gone in to that decision, but that compounded with the Oklahoma fan base wrongly(IMO anyway) turning against Stoops because he didn't win a 2nd(or more) natty could give the impression that he perhaps hated what that pressure lead him to do, and maybe being upset with how ungrateful a good number of Sooner fans had become despite his absurd amount of success.

2nd arrest since August. See ya. We’re trying to win championships and you are making us a worse program doing all your nonsense off the court. There is no damn reason you should be out and about at 4:30 on a Thursday morning whenever you are a D-1 athlete in the middle of your ramp up for the season. Stupid stupid stupid.We don’t have time for this crap. The sooner she is kicked off the team the better. I said the same about Boo Carter. He wasn’t arrested but still a selfish individual that cares more about himself than the team. Move on.

No way in Hell I’m buying another team’s merchandise. I love the man and will root for his success whenever playing everyone not named the Atlanta Braves but I will not financially support a rival franchise.

Good for you. MLB has been dead to me for years. CTV relit my passion for baseball. I’ve been all in on the BaseVols (albeit a Johnny come lately) since my first game in 2021 because of what CTV created. That was my last year watching MLB and I was a diehard Braves fan since the Dale Murphy era. The numerous MLB strikes and politics ruined it for me. Removing the AllStar game (and a chance to celebrate Hank Aaron while he was alive) from Atlanta because of politics? Unbelievable…. Plus, Giants are an iconic franchise that my Dad was a huge fan of courtesy of the radio. Rant over….
