For the fire Banks crowd.

I do think the 2024 Defense was smoke and mirrors as well. It was good but was it elite? I remember Ohio State and Georgia throwing all over it and making the defense looked bad (Georgia didn't put up a lot of points but they definitely had their way on offense against Tennessee).

Ohio State made our 2024 ELITE defense look silly and incompotent. My thinking in 2024 is that we were up against teams that played bad on offense: Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, UK, Miss State, etc. all were mediocre offensive teams that year.
The numbers said our 2024 defense was elite. So no it wasn’t smoke and mirrors.

There was never a plan for Jourdan Thomas to play this year. His career is over. And I don’t blame Jakobi for leaving for a DC who puts him in position to make plays and not sitting back 30 yards off the ball on 3rd and 4.
You are complaining about losing players while being unaware a major reason safety play sucks is due to Banks coaching and he’s a **** recruiter.
If I’m sitting there with my safety son as a recruit, we aren’t going to play for Banks. No chance.
You think he left for Miami because of their coach?

Lost the kid who’s starting at Vandy too. And Christian Charles. Another one to Cincy. Jakobi to Miami. They didn’t all leave for NIL
Many people have questioned our safety recruiting, nothing over 3*, lack of talent and subpar play and there’s one common denominator. BGB

For Me:

It’s not about whether or not he is a good D coordinator. I think he can develop good schemes and generate pressure on the QB. My biggest issue with him, is a lack of situational adjustments. Seems like we have a game plan and we are gonna follow it…no matter how well the results are.

Elite? No, they faced two great offenses all year long and couldn't stop them. An elite defense would have kept them in the game regardless of the offensive issues. Good? Yes. Are we under the assumption that as long as Tim Banks has two first round draft picks on the field at the same time that he can field a good defense? If that is the standard, then there are about 50 other DC's who can recruit better and coach a position group better that could accomplish that so we might as well save the money we are overpaying Banks and use it on other position coaches.

All over news right now. I warned you. Now I am not sure if Heupel is even interested but he is on LSU's list of targets.
I don’t buy that Heupel is a legit candidate for any of these openings. He’s not a great recruiter and he’s had 1 really good defense in his 8 years of coaching.

If he is, that says more about their program than his ability. Maybe Virginia Tech. Any AD that would ever pay 6-10 million for a coach again is drunk. This is all about player money now. I’d hire a top D2 coach and then a GM, and then put all the extra in funding NIL.

Here’s a question. If Heupel got hired at an other school is he taking Banks with him? He’ll no. Then why is he still here?

He's not a legit candidate because he isn't leaving UT anytime soon for anywhere else. Did you hear that clown governor from Louisiana? They would be best served getting the guy from Tulane

It was a solid defense made better by our slowing down the offensive tempo and running more because of Nico's inability to grasp up-tempo. This limited our opponents possessions and kept the defense rested. We could've won the Georgia game if we could've stretched the field more. There was no deep ball threat so if I remember correctly they were content with loading the box. I can't really hold Ohio State against them because once they lost to Michigan their NFL-lite roster decided to start playing ball again and they pretty much buzz sawed through everyone. We were just their first victim.

I mean 14 players were drafted off of the 2024-2025 OSU squad. That's insane.

I’m 100% certain there are better options for a DC. I’m not certain many of those options would want to coach for Heupel knowing he is oblivious and disinterested in winning TOP.

Do you think he forgot how to coach in one year? Last year half here were afraid he would leave for a head coaching job.

It has a lot more to do with the players on the field than many want to admit.

The Tennessee Vols defense in 2024 was outstanding, finishing sixth nationally in total defense and seventh in scoring defense, allowing just 16.1 points per game. The unit was characterized by depth on the defensive line and at linebacker, improved play from an overhauled secondary, and strong performance in key metrics like third-down defense and tackles for loss.

Key takeaways
  • Overall performance:
The defense was one of the best in the nation, holding 10 of 13 opponents to fewer than 20 points.

  • Key rankings:
    • 6th in total defense
    • 7th in scoring defense
    • 3rd in third-down defense
    • 5th in yards per play
    • 10th in run defense and tackles for loss
No, I never believed he knew how to coach that well to begin with. 2024 was an anomoly and not the normal. We played bad offenses and got lucky on numerous occasions.

I was hoping someone would be dumb enough to take him off our hands, still do, but now that is very unlikely bc they see that he isn't very good.

Well 98% of you are morons and do not understand college football then. With the Kelly firing, there are 9 major college openings. There will be more. For the ‘fire Banks!’ ‘Fire CJH’ crowd, where do you think UT would fall on the list of potential replacements? Definitely behind PSU, LSU, and UF……and all these schools will be throwing around crazy $s for coordinators. And all those schools that will loose coaches to all these openings will throw around money to replace them.

Our defense has a lack of talent. The middle of the DL is not good (and shallow depth) ; the LBs are slow and the Ss are bad…..and we lost our top two CBs. If Banks schemes to help stop the run, the secondary is on an island; if he schemes to help the secondary, the DL cannot stop the run…. there is a lack of talent more than a coaching problem. Eight games in, this defense is what it is. Firing a coach isn’t going to make it better. It would only put us behind the eight ball in finding a replacement (given all the open positions) and would hurt recruiting. Recruiting and the portal is where the focus should be.
Banks is 100% responsible for that lack of talent. It’s year 5. He’s recruiting and development are laughable. We won’t even be consistently good with him, much less elite. The proof is on the field. His guys…

Jakobe 1000000% left because of NIL

We couldn't Georiga off the field though band that was partly due to our inability to cover Georgia TEs.
