I am kicking myself for not thinking of this. But I think clearly my guy is a Beatles fan and is referencing Sexy Sadie. My sister had a friend in HS whose name was Rose, and she had a twin sister named Valerie.

I asked her once if her parents were Beatles fans. She didn't know what I was talking about. I told her:

It's a VERY weird Beatles song to reference so maybe it was a coincidence? Seems like a very unlikely coincidence. I was probably 15 or 16 but really into the Beatles.

Went to a concert at Kennedy Center where the National Symphony was performing with some indy folk/pop/rock types. The guy that wrote the orchestrations did an arrangement of Eleanor Rigby for the full symphony. Dang. Speechless.
