Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

If you have noticed...I've said the defense is putrid, because it objectively and quantifiably is, but I've never been on the "Tim Banks and staff are garbage and should be fahred and then tahred and feathered" train.

I can not in good conscience do that when we were just a top 10 CFB defense LAST YEAR...and since we gave gotten steadily anf quantifiably better every season until this one.

This season is a freak that I just do not understand...it makes zero sense.

One thing I do have against the staff is the fundamentals being so putrid...this should not be like that, and the only thing that I think is partially excusable or explainable is tackling...I would bet that hitting in practice has been massively curtailed because we are so thin on the roster.
Perfect storm of youth, inexperience, injuries

Oklahoma is number 1 in the nation in tackles for loss
We are 11th in the nation in tackles for loss allowed

We are 4th in the nation in tackles for loss
Oklahoma in 104th in the nation in tackles for loss allowed.
Ole Miss ran for 116 , Passed for 315. Those will be minimum number we need to win, in my opinion.

Just recorded a cool video of a huge hawk or eagle getting attacked by some crows or something, 😂. I had just gotten to the garage when I heard the birds squawking like crazy. I looked up and this giant hawk/eagle was flying around getting dive bombed by a bunch of smaller birds. They chased it in a circle about 3 or 4 times.

I didnt have my phone, so I got at from the truck then walked up to the house. I recorded the big hawk sitting in the top of a tree with 6-8 smaller birds diving and squawking at it, trying to run it off. It must've been raiding their nests or something.

I'll see if I can get my buddy to upload it for me after while.

Pretty cool. Could've been a great horned owl too. Crows will harass the heck out of those.

DeBoer is a good coach that actually puts in the work. I’d be surprised if they slip much over multiple seasons. Kelly was there to collect a check
That's hindsight bias, though, which means you can't really assume anything about DeBoer at this point either.

There was no indication Kelly was a poor coach or even a poor fit by the end of year two at LSU. He was 20-7 and 12-4 in the SEC at the end of 2023 with a Heisman Trophy winning QB and one win over Bama in 2022. He was regularly ranked just behind Kirby and Saban on most SEC coach tier lists. He had also just gone 68-20 since 2015 at Notre Dame.

If anything, DeBoer inherited a better situation than Kelly. He inherited a machine. Kelly inherited a great program that was coming off two down years of Ed O post-Burrow. So the jury is still fully out on DeBoer.

You're splitting hairs. I figure if you make a serious run for governor the line between businessman and politician are pretty blurred. It's alright that you feel that way and we don't have to agree. Which is Bill Lee, you know? He's sort of the same animal.
Bill Lee is a businessman first and foremost. He was a business owner before being governor and will be one after.

I can speak firsthand about the work he’s done to elevate pay and expectations of state employees. Prior to his arrival, state employee salaries (especially TDOT) were way below the industry. He’s been willing to try new methods for doing things that have been transformative to my industry.

As for the UT system, he’s done more for spending in higher ed than I’ve seen in my lifetime. The first new engineering building in 60 years was completed at TTU, and the TCAT investment is outstanding. That doesn’t even touch the investments in sports at our flagship university.

Not intending this as anything political. Just cause you’re an elected or appointed official doesn’t mean you’re a politician. I’ve been around this long enough to see a big difference, not splitting hairs.

I see this at our golf course all the time. The crows are protecting a nest from the hawk. They'll eventually try to kill the hawk.
