Do you claim we only scored 38 against UGA or do you claim it was a 40 point day? A game is a game.Georgia scored 43 on Ole Miss in regulation. It took an OT TD for them to get 44 against us. Arkansas scored 35 on Ole Miss and 42 on A&M, which are both more than the 31 they scored on us even after the two late fourth quarter TDs. Bama scored more on Vandy's defense(30) than they did on ours(28). Keep in mind, our offense gave up 9 points to Bama. They also scored 27 on Mizzou's defense. Mississippi St scored more on Texas' defense than ours. Kentucky is the only outlier. Has our defense been porous? Of course it has. It's not as god awful atrocious as many of you want to make it out to be, though.
Heupel going for 2 that early in the 3rd quarter was dumb because if we didn't convert it, we eliminate staying within 2 score game the minute Bama scored next. Our defense which forces turnovers at a very high clip also got a takeaway after that scoring drive. We did nothing with it, but by kicking to FG to make it a 9 point game, you make it one possession with a field goal at worst or a 2 point game with a touchdown at best case. Heupel was an idiot to chase points like that. Just like Venables was this past week against Ole Miss and Beamer was against Bama. There is no shortage of coaching getting too smart and trying chase points when they don't have to.Until the offense has a terrible day. Find me a season where an offense doesn't have a dud game all season. If/when that happens, and the defense plays like this, it's going to be a long day.
And wanting better play instead of just accepting it is not "cowering and being scared". Why you are so accepting of the terrible play shows you are fine with mediocrity.
And the reason for going for 2 down 10 is because there was no faith in getting 2 stops. Going for 2 tried to make it a 1 possession game instead of 2. If there was any amount of faith in the defense to get the ball back twice, that wouldn't have happened.
Scoring average should technically be about 4-5 points lower (currently 30.9 PPG)Do you claim we only scored 38 against UGA or do you claim it was a 40 point day? A game is a game.
Ok? They scored 28 on ours. That is more than 27. And even South Carolina held them to fewer points.
This defense is 15th out of 16 in total points allowed and Average/gm. One of 3 to average 30+ points allowed/gm. But sure, that's just great.
No, I don't make that claim. In the same amount of game time(regulation), though, Ole Miss allowed more points. Even if you include the OT TD, it was still a 1 point difference.Do you claim we only scored 38 against UGA or do you claim it was a 40 point day? A game is a game.

There should be a case study about this defense after the season. Because we get sacks and turnovers yet give up a lot of yards and points.
It's not embellishment, it's a trend and what it is.No, I don't make that claim. In the same amount of game time(regulation), though, Ole Miss allowed more points. Even if you include the OT TD, it was still a 1 point difference.
Yes, 28 is 1 more than 27...huge difference. 28 is less than 30, though, in case you are unaware.
I see you conveniently forgot to respond to the Arkansas and Miss. St. results.
You were the one claiming that our defense routinely allows more points than our opponents have scored against any other conference teams. That claim is patently false.
I have never claimed the defense is great. The facts are bad enough, no need to go way overboard in embellishment of how bad they are.
we will outgun Oklahoma at home in Neyland but it will definitely be a shootout I expect Tennessee wins 56-49. from what I saw of Oklahoma today they suck balls on offense. they should have taken care of ole miss and they got rolled.we will take them out.
So has the SEC become west coast football, where 5 scores are now acceptable for our defense to give up against an unranked SEC second tier team.Oh and keep the wise cracks to yourself. Not interested in petty squabbling. Our defense held Kentucky to 5 scoring drives out of 12 possessions. Oh and by the way, one of those 7 possessions we didn’t allow a score, we got a defensive touchdown.
But sure keep crying about something that won’t change overnight or this week or this season.

From an OU fan , Mateer is not that good. OU fans want OU to run it and don’t believe he can win with his arm after texas and ole Miss losses and interceptions and 1 yard per rush average . If the run game struggles , Tennesssee will beat us by at least 14.If you think we hold OU to 20 or 24 points you are much more optimistic than I am
