We will have to average 50-60 PPG against OU, UF and VU

we are in a boat race with our own defense. like a man being chased by a grizzly except the grizzly is our defense lying on their backs all over the field like a bunch of rugs.

Heupel is supposed to be offensive Jesus, well we are going to need the second coming to survive the final 3 SEC games if we want to finish 10-2.
Offensive "Genius" I think you meant?

No we didn’t score as often, but we kept the other offense off the field longer. Nico keeping drives alive on 3rd down with his legs.

I’ve supported Banks, but he absolutely screwed himself this past offseason. 2 more portal DTs and another veteran safety would have been tremendous for this defense. He didn’t even try to go after anyone.

He let go of
- Jacobe Thomas
- Christian Charles
- Jon Slaughter
- lost Will Brooks to graduation.

And didn’t try to get an experienced safety in the portal. He didn’t even try…
Banks is obviously distracted. No way he is dialed in 100%.

Let’s just beat Oklahoma next week and not worry about the rest of the season yet…
Oklahoma may be the rest of the season! We have got to have some defensive coaching changes sooner rather than later. This defense is becoming an embarrassment. Most Kentucky 3rd down plays were passes for a first down.Everyone there or watching TV should have and probably did know what was coming except our D.

Our defense held Kentucky to 5 scoring drives out of 12 possessions. Oh and by the way, one of those 7 possessions we didn’t allow a score, we got a defensive touchdown.

But sure keep crying about something that won’t change overnight or this week or this season.

No tears here, just trying to call them like I see them. Fixes are just part of a prosse. With out them Tn. will not win a National championship.

At this point the next game is the only thing that’s important…our LBs have been a liability in pass coverage all year and we were without Carter last Saturday. Not sure if that was part of the problem of if they just had an especially off day…coaching changes at this point would be foolish…

defensive touchdowns is just one metric, even if it's a good accomplishment. we have what I call a boom or bust defense. we go after a sack in hopes of a turnover and if we don't get home the offense shreds us for huge gains. and our tackling just sucks in those situations we don't wrap people up and we don't tackle in space well.

so it's cool when 1 out of 10 or 15 times we do something awesome like strip the QB and run for a TD, but that gets outweighed by the 14 times that we let a team in 3rd and long get 20 yard gains on us (or something similar).

Ohio State on the other hand is way behind Tennessee in sacks and defensive scores but they are widely considered maybe the best college defense anyone has ever seen. why? because they don't let the other team score points. that's the job of the defense.

Right now our ability to win hinges entirely on our offense being able to outscore what our defense gives up. which is not normal for UT defenses of the last few years.
It's normal for this team.

Is it any wonder that our team and out QB (Joey) gets no respect - I mean we have a group of so called fans who have no respect for this team.

You keep saying that but keep ignoring the fact that this defense let Kentucky score the most points they have all year in SEC play by 11 (23 against Ole Miss) and who only had 13, 14, and 13 in the other 3 games. This defense is routinely giving up the most points in SEC play for each team and getting bailed out by the offense.

we will outgun Oklahoma at home in Neyland but it will definitely be a shootout I expect Tennessee wins 56-49. from what I saw of Oklahoma today they suck balls on offense. they should have taken care of ole miss and they got rolled.we will take them out.
So, you say Oklahoma sucks on offense, they scored 26 points against an Ole Miss defense at home that is pretty similar to ours, Their OL is struggling and has injuries, Mateer has struggled since returning from the injury to his throwing hand, yet they will come into Neyland in a night game with the dark mode unis(which is something Mateer has never experienced anything even comparable to) and score more points than any other team we have faced this season? I don't disagree that this is likely to be a bit of a shootout but that just seems a bit unrealistic.

Yet in our 2 losses, the offense gave away 10 points (vs Bama - Pick 6, Safety, Going for 2 down 10) and 2 picks + mismanagement vs Georgia.

Also our defense is also scoring touchdowns and/or getting turnovers that set up cheap touchdowns.

Once again, we aren't changing the defense in a week or overnight. So as long as our defense plays like they have, we will give up big plays, but we will also get sacks and takeaways that will result in defensive touchdowns to negate a scoring drive given up or set up a cheap / short field touchdown for our offense. All the offense has to do is play average at minimum. Anything better than average by our offense and the margin of victory will be 2 scores.

But continue to cower and be scared.

Until the offense has a terrible day. Find me a season where an offense doesn't have a dud game all season. If/when that happens, and the defense plays like this, it's going to be a long day.

And wanting better play instead of just accepting it is not "cowering and being scared". Why you are so accepting of the terrible play shows you are fine with mediocrity.

And the reason for going for 2 down 10 is because there was no faith in getting 2 stops. Going for 2 tried to make it a 1 possession game instead of 2. If there was any amount of faith in the defense to get the ball back twice, that wouldn't have happened.

Georgia scored 43 on Ole Miss in regulation. It took an OT TD for them to get 44 against us. Arkansas scored 35 on Ole Miss and 42 on A&M, which are both more than the 31 they scored on us even after the two late fourth quarter TDs. Bama scored more on Vandy's defense(30) than they did on ours(28). Keep in mind, our offense gave up 9 points to Bama. They also scored 27 on Mizzou's defense. Mississippi St scored more on Texas' defense than ours. Kentucky is the only outlier. Has our defense been porous? Of course it has. It's not as god awful atrocious as many of you want to make it out to be, though.
