White makes smart hire for Diamond Vols- West

Danny White was told to do this. Hope it works out. He didn't want the backlash from players and most fans. All I know is being a good assistant coach doesn't mean being a good head coach. Holly Warrick, Kelly Harper, Pruitt are just a few examples of this. I hope Elander does great, we will see.

Was DW responsible for any of those hires. I don't think so. He fixed the Warrick situation after the fact. Pruitt was a Fulmer choice. Danny White made the right hire and had he not hired Elander, he would have torched the Fan Base and possibly the team.
No Brainer without Drama.

Did you read my post at all? I didn't blame DW for those hires. I stated a Fact, being a good assistant coach doesn't mean a good head coach. I also said I hope Elander does great, but we will see

I guess my point is look forward, not backward. Regardless, it does not reflect or related to the current situation in ADs and circumstances. DW was told to do this? I don't think he had to be told. Weighted yes, but if he was told to do this, we don't need DW as an AD.

Logic tells me that you hire someone outside when a program nears rock bottom or spiraling out of control. You hire within to keep continuity in a successful program.

This is true but the talent is there to compete with the basevols. Not so much in those other sports at the time.

Or...on the other hand...that assistant named Vitello we hired worked out pretty well...

Kirby Smart, Bob Stoops, Phillip Fulmer, Marcus Freeman, Dan Lanning, Ryan Day, and Lincoln Riley were all guys who went from being top assistants directly to high major head coaches and were very successful in their first head coaching job.

Oh, and same for Tony Vitello.

Nothing is guaranteed, but Elander has the look and pedigree of a guy ready to be a very successful head coach.

I am not sure I’d consider UCF a high major program… but i agree with your point.

Also not sure about mixing football and beisbol for the purpose of this exercise. Seems to me, a football coach has a much larger organization with which to deal and much higher stakes financially.

What does UCF have to do with my post? I’m confused.

To be successful in coaching.
#1 have the resources
#2 talent evaluation
#3 close on recruits
If the head man doesn't have all the answers to in game decisions he needs assistants to give ideas and then make the decision. I think JE fits the bill to be very successful. Keep the train rolling. GBO 🍊 💥
