Josh Elander Named Tennessee Head Coach

Part of me wonders if the reason Elander never left UT when he was a name floated around for the last 2-3 years is that he knew Tony would eventually leave and if he gutted it out he could get this job in a place he’s already put roots in the community. I guess we’ll never know, but I’m sure he’s had suitors, it just hasn’t been reported.

He has had suitors and I'm sure there were a couple of reasons. Hope you can last and get the chance, which happened. He also made more money than several of those were paying their head coaches.
It is like Kirby. He is hoping that he can hang on financially and get a position rather than take a position at a smaller school and have to work his way back up. It is a hard climb back to the top. Plus you learn so much more at the top.

I think I saw somewhere the past couple days that the South Carolina job could've been his but he turned them down.

All great points. Elander had a lot of job security here and financial security, so it gave him the option to be highly selective with his next move. Turns out it paid off for him. I mean TV’s name has been floated in coaching searches for 5 years now. And obviously Elander worked closely with TV. I’m sure he picked up some indication that an opportunity would present itself here as long as he stayed patient.

Kirby is in a great spot to learn from one of the best in the business, Frank Anderson. Josh also knows what he is getting in Kirby. A person of integrity, character, hard worker, team first guy and a true VFL.
By the way, I'm pretty sure Kirby's girlfriend also babysat for my family a few years back during my youngest granddaughter's first year. She is such a wonderful person and kids (and parents) absolutely love her!

So getting back to baseball a little bit, when can we expect the university to release the rest of the nonconference schedule? It's still not up on the UT website and I'd still like to attend a couple of games this year without having to sacrifice an arm and a leg.

It normally does not come out until February or earliest late January.

How many paid coaches can be on staff now?

I honestly don’t think Tony would’ve ever left for another HC position at the collegiate level. It’s funny how things work out. Tony gets to fulfill a dream that ANYBODY would’ve took and for anybody to dwell on that decision like Tony did shows how much he loves Volnation and the state of Tennessee. We got the next best man for the job. I was upset at first about Tony, but now I’m thrilled for all parties involved. Things are definitely gonna be ok.

Kendall Rodgers said he's flirted with taking other college jobs each of the last 3 years lol
