They do have money issues. You can research it yourself or not. Don’t care. That doesn’t preclude someone paying off their tab for a coach if true.
These are the facts:
1)LSU athletic dept is currently in the red
2) The School (education side) is making cuts
3) Louisiana demographics are not in good shape

I have no idea what will happen and have not claimed so. I only challenged that popular perception may not be reality as far as the state of the program. Hell they may come out smelling like roses for all I know. NIL is changing the college landscape rapidly and none know how it’s going to shape out so I’m skeptical of any perception that relies on the SEC of 2015 paradigm.

Louisiana has world class high-school talent but I can envision a world in which recruiting becomes “a” factor and not “the “ factor. The future seems likely to reward coaches that can evaluate talent and manage rosters via NIL/transfer portal.

None of that has anything to do with what I said. They can clearly drum up whatever amount of money they need to.

Your original statement in this thread was that LSU was broke and implied they won't have the money to get who they want. And somehow, you are still trying to defend such an ignorant statement.

This is the original quote to which you’re referring. What does I don’t know mean in your world? In my world it means that maybe they can or maybe not. They are broke and operating in the red. That is a fact. Maybe they come through, maybe not. I don’t know.

They are hardly "broke." They operated at about an $800k deficit last year after years of generating large profits and sending a bunch of it to the academic side of the house.

If they have large donors that are willing to cover the buyouts, the current state of finances for their AD is kind of irrelevant anyway.

Yep..broke is probably too strong of a word especially if getting bailed out comes to fruition.

The state of the program is that LSU is going to have no issues firing Kelly and hiring whatever coach to whatever contract they want.

Van Lathan was talking about this on The Ringer Tailgate. He is from Baton Rouge. He said the state of Louisiana is poor and behind in most ways that people measure, and what makes them feel "rich" is having an elite football program.

They have the money...for LSU football.

That's a fair approach. But Saban still knew the playing field was evening out. His reign of dominance was going to take a hit. Not a steep drop off, but it would take a hit.

His ego wouldn't let him continue to coach.

There probably wasn't a more adaptable coach during the time that he was coaching (or maybe ever) than Saban. I know he has critiqued the current state of the game since retiring, but I think the main driving force behind him hanging it up was simply his age - people forget he was 71. If he was working a cush white collar office job, people would be like "I wonder when he's going to retire?"

About 3-4 years into his tenure at Alabama he faced something of an existential crisis with spread, hurry up offenses. He lobbied for a rule change around substitutions initially, and when he didn't get it he completely changed the kinds of defensive players, particularly LBs, that he was recruiting. Then he goes out and gets Lane Kiffin, changes the offense, and starts recruiting more dynamic, playmaking QBs. If he felt like doing it, he probably would adapt to NIL and the portal too. I mean he basically did - it isn't like he dipped as soon as NIL/portal became a thing. Bryce Young had a huge NIL deal and Jahymr Gibbs/Jameson Williams were portal players.
