LSU Cans Kelly

I think the paradigm is shifting on that. It’s about NIL and Louisiana doesn’t have the billionaires that Texas, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee have. This 54 million buyout is going to hurt and possibly set back the program. I don’t know if they can afford top dollar for a coach.
You've got to be kidding me....

If Kiffin wants the challenge with very high expectations (almost more than Alabama at this point) then LSU is the job for him. That and if Ole Miss doesn't match the money LSU hypothetically offers. After Coach O and now Kelly with these buyouts, the AD must be made of money.

He could want to build something at Ole Miss.
Kiffin has stated that money is not a factor on Pat McAfee show when these rumors come up. Said he's seen enough in life thus far to know it doesn't buy happiness. He has a pretty relaxed and successful gig right now. As long as his kids are in school he's probably holding pat.

I think its more about Knox now. His daughter kept him from Auburn because it coincided with her starting college that same fall.

Oxford HS played my nephew's team last week and the takeaway from folks there was Knox was going to be the starter rest of season adn the foreseeable future. So even if there are better programs in Florida or Louisiana, doubt Lane moves and rips him out of a stable high school situation.

Now if Ole Miss gets blown out in the playoff, that's a different story.

Once again, there is not a money concern for LSU.

Plus, I think Lane has muffed enough on personal decisions thus far to give it a rest and let his kids have the light for a bit. I don't think a blow out in the CFP would entice him to rip away that opportunity if Knox has the starter locked up now though. That'd be pretty cruel when you can have any job you want when the kids are done. Couple more years won't hurt Kiffin. IMO, and it's not a gifted one, if Kiffin can get that natty at UM while waiting on Knox, he won't have as much incentive to go where he can get one after he feels he can move. His primary incentive will be to go where he can get a natty in 3-5 years, and that's not even a lock these days, so if he can pull one off soon, he's lost his incentive to leave. He's got the money. He wants a title to his name.

He needs to win one game in the playoff at minimum to keep the folks in Oxford calm and not worrying about him leaving.

Yep. The deeper he goes, the less likely. The team to watch though is the one big name that has not filled the job yet no matter how deep in the CFP they get. That will be the tell. If LSU or FL is still vacant past one UM playoff win, there's a possible deal in there somewhere with a substantial backup waiting if it falls through. Start losing too many recruits waiting and whoever gets the 1st season will be a disaster salvage.

LSU should have canned Kelly after he tried to show with a southern accent.Typical of an overblown ass who thought he was a great coach. They should have KNOWN for sure after our Vols pasted them at their house scoring 40 on them. You build a winning record by playing Temple,Navy and other tin-can programs to prove how you are and then step into the SEC where life gets real every week. So Brian,Suck it!

Arkansas, UF, LSU, maybe AU, USC, have or could be changing coaches which multiplies the number because whoever they steal from will also have a new coach. The boosters are going to load them all up with cash, pat them on the ass and tell them to recruit players that will help make the playoffs. It will be a total zoo as soon as the portal opens. The added competition will again drive NIL up and no one on any roster will be safe, even Joey, if he gets another year. No coaches are safe either with these idiots paying serious dollars for buy outs. Some coach will get $120 million 8 year contract. Its raw unbridled capitalism with no brakes.

Those contracts are fine. I think we are going to see coaches get higher annual salaries, but the buyouts are the thing that really hurts the most.

Like take Saban or Dabo or Kirby. Would anyone really think in their title years they were overpaid or paid the right amount? Hell no. Marcus Freeman made the natty last year.

There was a study done about Saban's first 10 years at Bama and how the success led to increase in out of state enrollment. Saban was making peanut compared to what the school was bringing in.

And if your a school that makes a deep playoff run or makes a natty or wins a natty, a coach making $9-12 million is a hell of a discount for that year.

In related news, my son is now an official recruit…in Bio Chem for post grad study. Has 3 or so semesters left at TNTech due to transfer and multiple changed majors till he found his liking.

Did summer research for a professor as an undergrad this summer and proved it all out. Just got back from a conference in Orlando where the team presented all their individual work. Other professors there looking for students to recruits to their programs couldn’t believe he wasn’t already a grad student with what he worked in and proved.

Research profs out scouting for students came back to him multiple times to talk. He has interest now from Auburn, UAB, Baylor, Clemson and UT. Said Clemson was his favorite right now. One program even had PhD pathway program where he can be a doctoral candidate without all the extra time to complete the masters first. Saves2-3 years.

Guess he was wise to retire from sports after high school.

I don't think you don't understand. Didn't you get the memo about the deficit?

Everyone knows they have a deficit. However, my statement that money won't be an issue when it comes to firing Kelly (which they have done) and hiring a top tier coach and staff (which they will do). LSU isn't going to have to conduct a coaching search where the finances are going to be a roadblock to getting who they want.

Like grandfather, like grandson. It skipped me and my siblings. Neat story though. He loved baseball. Started football just to have osmething to do in the fall, but picked it up quickly and was quite good at it. Same rural highschool as his grandfather and wore his number throughout highschool, though he did change numbers on nights they planned to take him off the line and run him at LB & TE. The fun part of watching those days is when a 5'9" 180 pound guard, pushes around 260 pound DL like flat pancakes. It was always a bit nostalgic to me to see him wear his granddads number. He started that after dad died and wouldn't be there to watch any longer.
