Who's the next Chaz Lanier/Dalton Knecht

Nearly 19 points a game for a true freshman seems like a lot. I mean Cooper Flagg averaged 19.2 and he was widely considered one of the best prospects in quite some time. If we get 18.4 from Ament with how deep the rest of the roster is, that’s a national championship roster.

I think 14-16 feels like a more realistic outcome. I think Ament is going to take some time to really show out and adjust to the speed of the college game.
Durant averaged 26 a game for Coach Barnes at Texas. So he's willing to let a freshman dominate if capable.

Last year Harper averaged 19.4 for Rutgers. Tre Johnson averaged 20 for Texas. Edgecomb averaged 15 for Baylor with their grind it out style when they averaged in the 60s as a team.

For everything Ament appears to be, I think 18 is very realistic given that Barnes will let guys off the leash and his contemporaries are generally in the 17-23ppg range.

I almost feel like Barnes has drawn back a little on the high praise for Ament over the last couple weeks. He seemed to steer the conversation away from Ament in a couple interviews I've seen. My hunch is that Gillespie is going to be our best player for most of the season.

By the end of the year Ament will be the man.
I hope you're right. I always think back to Carmelo Anthony and the Syracuse championship. Freshman played and got better and better all year, until the tournament. By the end he wasn't a freshman and just absolutely lit it up carried his team to a championship. Not saying it's likely statistically speaking, but I hope Nate becomes that kind of player.
But, on the surface the big player coming in this year is Gillespie. Not only is he a scoring machine, but you can manage it offense very well. But, what Barnes has already been talking about is how intense he is on the defensive end. Dear Lord!

I’d probably go on the lower end, like 17ppg, but he’s a projected Top 5 pick in the draft and was a consensus Top 5 recruit. Those things both line up historically with a minimum of 15ppg as baseline, given the number of minutes he’s going to get here and the freedom it appears Barnes is giving him (trust), I’ll be pretty surprised/disappointed if he’s not 16+ppg.
I'm going to go with 15.5 points a game, but only because I think the scoring will be spread around quite a bit. Our big guys will likely get a bigger chunk than is typical. At least I hope this is true. A well-rounded team would hopefully help us get past the regular scoring droughts we have had lately.

NATE AMENT is my choice! Not to put too much pressure on him, but he is the type of freshman that we have never had before.

Chaz avg 18 ppg
DK avg 22 ppg

I think Ament will avg around 16-18 ppg. If he truly is a top 3 pick here's a list of other top players who averaged around that amount of ppg as freshman top 10ish recruits....

Cooper Flagg 23 ppg
Brandon Miller 18 ppg
Paolo Banchero 17 ppg
Jabari Smith 17 ppg
Chet Holmgren 14 ppg (Ament's floor imo bc of how thin both are/were... Chet was thinner tho)
Cade Cunningham 20 ppg
Anthony Edwards 19 ppg
Zion 23 ppg
RJ Barrett 23 ppg
Trae Young 27 ppg
Ayton 20 ppg
Marvin Bagley 21 ppg
Collin Sexton 18 ppg
Jayson Tatum 17 ppg
Brandon Ingram 17 ppg
Wiggins 17 ppg
Jabari Parker 19 ppg
Great list.

I really like our front court. I think we will get a lot of points from the guys down low. Which should take some pressure off Jakobi and Ament.

Not sure about the next Dalton or Lanier, but the only person last night that looked better than I expected at this point in time was DeWayne Brown.
Ament looked better than I expected. He played excellent defense, much better than I expected and was consistently aggressive, looking to score. Not worried about him shooting 25 percent on the season, but I like his mentality. Gotta have it as a scorer. He looked like he knows he's the alpha out there.

I thought he was really pressing. He'll settle in.

He definitely made a great first impression. But sample size notwithstanding, I’d add Burg to that. He showed a better handle than I was expecting and appeared as confident as anybody on the floor. Imo

While Ament didn’t shoot great, the ball will start dropping for him eventually. He just needs to find his groove. And I’m confident he will
Good chance he lives up to his rankings. Saw him on the Mike Keith Show and he is a well spoken young man with confidence, but not cocky. Grateful for his blessed physical status but also for his opportunity to play for a coach with both knowledge and character and sense of humor and for camaraderie with the entire squad where he feels he is a good fit.

Guessing he was just amped up for the exhibition and will settle in. Would have preferred a start like their guy, but a good chance this was his worst outing and maybe the best for the other guy. He was impressive.

Great show each week if you are into positive AND informative programming. Great recap of the baseball saga with respect to Elander.

Introduced Our new alternative basketball analyst Chris Lofton.
