Yeah, 18-inning World Series game is something, but the Atlanta Braves lost a 19-inning home game 16-13 to the NY Mets on July 4/5, 1985. I was there. Saw Rick Camp’s game-tying HR in the bottom of the 18th. Watched as the Braves proceeded to surrender 3 runs in the top of the 19th and go quietly, 1, 2, 3 in the bottom of the inning. Scheduled on the Fourth of July, a fireworks display had been planned for after the game. At ~4:00 am, they dutifully set it off, waking folks in nearby neighborhoods and prompting many 911 calls.
My friend who had accompanied me to the game knew where restaurant and bar workers met to unwind after work. We joined them to play volleyball until after sunrise. We hit a Waffle House for breakfast. He ordered a double cheeseburger. I went with sausage, eggs, and hash browns, scattered, smothered, and covered.
Edit: The connection between the two stories? Freeman was a beloved member of the Braves for many years.
