NIL$$ and NFL draft rumors.
Gibson was not a happy camper during the summer. Rumor was, he didn't think he was getting a fair piece of the pie. Rumored he was a NFL draft pick also. Makes me wonder, did he have to show up for one game to complete his honor to the Vols for a game, unless hurt? Or is he truly hurt? If he is truly hurt, all respect to him. Football can be brutal.
McCoy,, let's face it, he ain't gonna risk his chance to get his $$, and oh by the way, did I mention NFL?
Jordan Matthews,, cornerback who transferred. Didn't think he was gonna get the playing time behind Gibson and McCoy + NIL$$. Now he's balling out at Vanderbilt.
Jacobie Thomas,,, safety, who transferred to Miami. Balling out from what I hear. I guess the NIL$$ just weren't there?
Boo Carter,,, and all the drama that surfaced during the summer.
Not to mention, Christian Charles, transferred to Virginia , and Christian Harrison to Cincinnati. Both could have developed into very serviceable DBs.
We replace those players with one Colton Hood and Redmond(freshman). Redmond definitely has potential. Now Hood is hurt. Rumors have it, he's an NFL$$ draft pick. If he's truly hurt, total respect for him. He gave his all.
Sounds like if Vols want a defensive secondary,, they gonna have to chalk up more NIL$$$ to the secondary also. Or it ain't gonna change..
Don't you just love the NIL and (NFL interference) into college football?

McCoy isn’t gonna be a high draft pick coming off a torn ACL. I fully expect he and Gibson to be back next year. Until we get some better players and coaches this secondary is gonna be melted Swiss cheese.
The holes connect back together when Swiss cheese is melted. It’s probably best to stick with the ordinary Swiss cheese analogy.

These coaches let a lot of guys leave, which is part of why they’re in the predicament now. It’s not like the portal’d anything back in. Hood is it. I get Thomas as he had shown promise, but they couldn’t figure out he should be the primary starter at safety? Really. Also, Matthews and those Other guys weren’t doing much here, so maybe a development issue.
Also let a LB walk to go to Miss. State.

People have been assuming this but does an NFL GM roll the dice on a first round pick after he had to sit a year off from an injury?

I doubt it. He is probably a second round guy at this point.

An ACL injury is not a big deal anymore in terms of front offices being scared of.

You don't play for the $$$. You play for the love of the game.. $$ will come if that's your God given talent.
That might be the way it used to be in the olden days. The vast majority of the players now are looking for $$$’s before they’ll even sign or transfer to a particular school. And that ain’t changing. That horse done left the barn and ain’t coming back. Better get used to it.

He was really good last year but I agree, I think a lot of the first round mocks was assuming he showed continue progression. I dont think I would feel comfortable with my team using a first round pick on him.

That is, until the bowl game comes and if you're a premier player then sit out so you don't possibly get hurt and diminish your NFL chances. This has ruined college bowl games. Fans want their teams to put their best team on the field, and best players. Yeah, I know kid has to look out for themselves but isn't getting a free education part of the deal? Have some integrity and play for your team. If you're afraid of getting hurt take out an insurance policy with that NIL money. Just gripes me that healthy players will skip the bowl games.
