Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I don't know what in the world is going in in college football anymore. You've got apparel brands rumored to have bought out coaches and now the Louisiana governor apparently put his thumb on the scale to fire Brian Kelly, and the word is they can't agree on his buyout. Tell me what incentive Brian Kelly could possibly have to take less money than he's contractually obligated to receive. I guess the governor figured that part of things wasn't his problem.

But what coach is going to want to take over somewhere you can be fired by the governor, and they try to wiggle their way out of paying you what they owe you?

hate that if Hood is down, we are going to have to play boo more... crazy we have to play him at all, because you know the coaches watch tape and see his half ass play the entire game... Had to watch the game with a bunch of Auburn grads, and they were literally laughing at the lack of effort from him it was so obvious... they were like " damn, you guys are so thin on D that you have to play a kid who clearly could give a rat's ass even being on the field, feel sorry for you"...

If we had Auburn's defense (held TAMU to 16pts in college station), we would be going for a legit Natty this season... they are like us, except the opposite... Great D and no O, and we're great O and no D...
Very True. Boo gone after this year, right? I'm sure he's ticked that he's not getting reps on offense.

I think any coach/employee of a state university can be helped out the door by the governor.

Every Florida fan who suggests they might have to go to their next option after Lane Kiffin gets downvoted into oblivion on their message boards. It's such an interesting psychology. And the Florida media has 100% set them up to expect Kiffin. I saw someone suggest a minute ago that if it isn't Kiffin, they riot the way Tennessee did to stop the Schiano hire.

I mean to be fair I think everyone in the SEC has a better defense than us except Arkansas.

But with stats I always like to look at who did you play.

Scoring offense in SEC
1. Vols
2. Vandy
3. A&M
4. Ole Miss
5. Arkansas
6. Missouri
7. Alabama
8. Georgia
9. Miss State

10. Texas
11. OU
12. LSU

13. Auburn
14. Kentucky
15. Florida
16. South Carolina

Bold is who we've played, italic is who Ole Miss has played.

Arkansas is the best scoring offense either of us have faced. They scored 35 on Ole Miss and 526 total yards against us 31 points and 496 total yards.

Both played Georgia. Ole Miss gave up 43 and 510 total yards, we gave up 44 and 502 total yards (OT game though).

Kentucky is a weird one though Ole Miss played them in game 2 of the year Calzada was starting and garbage. Boley taking over has really made them a better offensive team, despite not winning more games.

His last 3 games he has thrown for 60%+ (74%+ twice) and at least 225 yards and 7 TDs to 3 INTs. One of those games was at Georgia too. So we got a far better Kentucky offense imo than Ole Miss saw.

Of note, Arkansas scored more points on Ole Piss and Texas AM Then UT including the OT with UT….

The only way I would take less if I was him, is if I had a mitigation clause.

If they would take some of the mitigation off table and guarnatee more then I could take another job and still get paid and double dip.

Other than that, pay me via electronic transfer ASAP please.

The governor of Louisiana having his/her hands all over LSU football goes back a century, WAY moreso than most places.

Also, LSU doesn't have a president right now. Governor has to step in, said the article I read.

LSU doesn't have to pay him a lump sum, can pay over the course of years ($800,000 a month); that, and Kelly wanting to coach again (he told LSU he wants to), is the shake up about his contract, and what/how he's owed it.

Not sure teams are going to be lining up to get him. What he’s put on film hasn’t been great and I think most people can see the red flags. He will have opportunities but I bet he takes a cut in NIL money unless he shows out the next few games.

we lost some beasts on the DL
we lost a ton of depth pieces to the portal, our 2-deep rotation got a whole lot thinner from last year just because of that (teams offering them starter money/time that we wouldn't)
CB1 torn ACL
CB2 torn pec
CB3 might be injured
safety recruiting otherwise has been terrible. CB portaling has gone well for 2 years now. just have to keep guys.
My issue is all of that except cb2 was known after last fall. Recruit and develop or use the portal to have a decent defense every year - that’s the job. Too many teams have better defenses to give him a pass at this point.
