Uh, no. In every method of evaluation known to man, moving from Tennessee to VT is a major step DOWN.

Sometimes, I actually think Hokie fans bought all that ESPN hype when they were trying to build VT into a 'traditional' power from nothing more than Michael Vick.

Face it, when you're only real tradition is that you play a halfway decent Metallica song for your entrance, you have no tradition, and you're not a real program.

Absolutely hilarious!

Heupel to VT. Seriously??

This is so out in left field and highly unrealistic that its funny. It sounds like a random person's opinion more than anything.

Huepel isn't leaving Tennessee for a very long time.

I'm sure Tech is desperately wanting their native son Beamer to leave South Carolina. I don't see that if South Carolina loses out or not.... I could be surprised, but I highly doubt it. I think Beamer is going to be on the hot seat though next year if he loses out this year.

Never understood the ranking SCar got to start the season. If they lose out this season…he may not make it to next season. I don’t know what his buy out is, though…so that could play into any decision. I don’t think he lasts much longer at SCar, regardless.

He's starting to get that BK look on his face. Could happen, but too many openings in P4 for SoCar to come out with a better coach if not worse. I look to see if Beamer makes it past game 6 next season.

Good year for Top FCS and G6 coaches though with all these openings.

South Carolina isn’t very good at coaching searches anyway. When Spurrier quit on them midseason, they had a six week Headstart to hire the next coach. They hired Will Muschamp. What a disaster. I think Beamer probably gets one more year and then they go shopping. They need a Cignetti like hire.

Agreed. I think they know where they stand on this years pecking order. Speaking of Muschamp, wonder what's up there? Not DC'ing for anyone. Transitioned back off field at UGA as an analyst for more family time this season. As good a DC as can be hired if one was in need.

I mean honestly, Hokies could have probably had Heupel-after they fired Fuente like 6 years ago.

Once Heupel was here and the ship had started turning around in the 2021 season, lol

We have a huge fan base that dwarfs VT, a modern day colosseum of a stadium that is filled every Saturday, and a generous NIL collective.

He is also getting paid $9 million a year. Has general goodwill with the fanbase. Buds with the AD and has followed him from stop to stop.

Are there better jobs than ours? Honestly probably yes.

Is one of them Va Tech. Hell naw.

Unless Heupel has hidden heart issues and the SEC pressure is killing him, there's not a snowballs chance he steps down to Va Tech

Honestly, Josh kinda strikes me as one of those guys that love pressure so I wouldn't be contacting realtors in Blacksburg yet

He was at the Vandy games, at least some, with his son being the backup QB there. Good DC, but his temper is out of control.

People that take forecasting seriously knew both Sc & LSU had OL issues, which is a key ingredient in disappointing seasons regardless of your QB

You could fill a bus with “good DCs” that coached under Saban. Other than Kirby, did any really do well as head coaches?

I can't name any at a D coordinator level.

In terms of assistants though-

I could make a case for Mark Dantonio doing more than "OK" at Michigan St.

Dan Quinn worked under Saban in Miami

Golesh would be a great hire at VT. They are supposedly committed to putting significant money into this hire and they have reasonable NIL resources from NoVA alumni. It would be nice to see them competitive again in the ACC.

Derangement Syndrome is running rampant through college football this season. This new expanded playoff has made these schools completely lose sight of who they are. The majority of these programs that have fired their coach are going to be worse or the same as they are right now.

None of yall read the article did you?

I did... Sounds more or less like an opinion from a Tech fan. I'm also far from the grammar police, but you can look up the coaches name before putting this out there.

All in all, sounds like a Tech fans opinion and hoping for the best for the next coaching hire. Its a bit out there, but it is what it is. Im not surprised.

I agree, and I blame the hyperbolic Vick hype back in the early 20-naughts that tried to pump a small regional power school into a legitimate major program. VT just isn't that.

VT fans bought into the hype, and actually believe they could lure a coach from ANY legitimate national program. That's not happening, and it is surely not happening regarding Tennessee.

This.

How many coaches out there are significant upgrades? With NIL and the portal I expect there to be significant swings in success year over year for most programs. If you've got a guy consistently winning ~9 games, like we do, its best you hold on to them. The floor is very, very low now... just look at Florida State last year.

Yea, I just don't get it. There are some coordinators that may turn into good coaches, but given the fact that the AD just mis evaluated the current hire( who most likely had HC experience), what makes them think they can evaluate someone with no HC experience? Unless there is a new AD, idk why you, as a booster or fan, would have faith in that. More coordinators turn out to be busts than turn out to be great. How many Golesh's are out there?
