I'm 99.9% sure he's negotiating the offset language and/or the duty to mitigate.

Potential win/win for both parties - LSU lowers the total buyout and BK can either double dip (if he wants to coach again) or not have to try and get another job if he wants to go sit on the couch and count his money.
I don’t care about the language, if I’m winning 70% of the game I’m coaching, you’re paying me everything if you fire me

Hate Kiffin, so hope he goes to Baton Rouge so we hardly ever have to see him and, deal with his brash ass in the East. Finebaum today rated these three schools in this order as to which is the best opportunity for a new coach:

LSU
Gators
Penn State

LSU has highest upside. Penn State is the most stable of the 3 to walk into and almost win right away.

Florida to my joy is so screwed with these other schools ripping bandaid off.

Just for comparison, Heupel is 72% win percentage. We are at a position we haven’t been in, in years. Would yall honestly fire Heuple with 72% winning percentage.

Of course not. There would be no reason to. Now what I don't want to see done this coaching carousel season is Heupel get some contract update where he gets an increased buyout.

Assuming he wants to coach again (which reportedly he wants to), he stands to make more money by negotiating the buyout down in exchange for getting the offset language removed.

He also could be pushing to get half of it paid immediately if he accepts a reduced amount. If memory serves the buyout is due in monthly payments over the next several years. So instead of getting $800k/month over the next 4-5 years or so he could get something like $20 million (if the total buyout was negotiated down to $40 million) next week, and the remaining $20m paid in monthly installments.

True, I think we need to change something up with our defense (either get new coaches or push the coaches to make major adjustments to what they are doing and how they are approaching the game).

There is a disturbing trend of defensive collapses by Tennessee from season 1 with Heupel (especially in big games). To get to that next step, we have to figure it out.

I think Heupel is starting to realize this and he seems to be getting frustrated about it.

We can talk about it in 2024 but it was rough against Georgia. The 2022 collapse against South Carolina was baffling, etc. Some of the WORSE defensive performances by Tennessee have come under Heupel (in may instances we are still winning despite the defensive struggles).
Two best CBs in the SEC not playing because of injuries and we ard still ranked 14th in the Nation. Remarkable coaching on both sides of the ball for this to happen.

Trust me, I get it, a bird in the hand and all. I guess I’m just a spiteful person. If someone told me they would pay me 50+ million dollars, not to coach, I’d be in. Just like their last patsy. Just sayin. 😊

We have yet to beat a Power 5 team with a winning record or a team that has a win in the SEC. Come back when we beat someone.

Yet we are still ranked #14. A lot of people, other than you, seem to think we have a pretty good football team, despite all the injuries. Maybe the offense will continue to score enough points to win and the defense can continue to get turnovers and score a few points. Regardless, the team as performed better than 80 % for the Nation predicted. Saturday will be a big challenge, but I believe we come out winners.

Go and get as many defensive quality players you can. Especially at LB. Let’s snag another stud WR or 2 and spruce up the offensive line.

This is like a college football going out of business sale. Let’s spend some money!!!
I’m thinking ALOT of fan bases are going to be disappointed with the new hire.

The fact that there is 50 million dollars to make average/adequate/competent coaches go away, tells me that player salaries aren't up to equilibrium yet. A professional team would not do this, especially if they didn't have a salary cap. They'd spend that money on players. As annoying as these two are, we aren't talking about Dooley/Butch levels of ineptitude.

The NIL, coupled with the portal, has upended college football as we know it. Just look at what it did for Texas AM. I can't imagine being a coach nowadays. Its like playing fantasy football every season. No wonder the buyouts are huge. As much as I don't like Brian Kelly and never thought he was worth that much to begin with, it would seem like a better use of funds would be to hit the portal and go shopping for next year.

Not really a BK fan, but why in the world sould he even consider thking half of his buyout unless they
Tell him they can possibly fire him for cause.

He would get all of the money at one time and there are index funds paying double digit returns over the last 15-18 months. Same math as lottery winners.

Either way Kiffin choses, he's going to get a monster contract.

I don't think he was leaving Ole Miss for Florida. I am pretty confident he will leave Ole Miss for LSU.

It's the best job there by a mile. I don't get anybody taking the PSU job over LSU and maybe not even Florida. You got the pressure of the LSU job without LSU's talent/NIL $, and it's also Pedo State, lest we forget. LSU has some warts, but they ain't that.

Also, I don't think Cignetti leaves for PSU or Florida, but he might for LSU.

Cignettis buyout is 15 million. I’m not saying that someone won’t pay it but it’s not a non factor.

I think there are only a handful of coaches who are untouchable right now. Most guys should be feeling the pressure to win. I was shocked psu fired franklin and sorta shocked lsu fired kelly. With the money flying around college sports these days, everyone's seat should be a tad warm. People are much too impatient now that the kids are making big money.
