The is slap crazy. Consider...

NIL has completely changed college football. It truly is "any given Saturday". Heck, Kentucky took Texas to the wire last week. South Carolina played tough against Alabama. Tennessee (with it's atrocious defense) was one bad kick away from putting Georgia away. NIL has leveled the playing field.

These schools are nuts thinking they can spend millions on buyouts and bring in some guy that is going to win like the past two decades. Those days are over. Who in the world are they going to hire?

Florida and Florida State and LSU and Penn State and Arkansas and Oklahoma State can't all buy a coach that will all the games...somebody's gonna win and somebody's got to loose. I predict the CFP is going to easily consist of teams with three or more losses in the near future.

Gone are the days when you lost one game and your season was over. This looks more and more like the NFL (like it or not) with each passing season.

As a Tennessee fan, I would love to see Heupel continue to grow personally. I'd like for him to make adjustments on defense (was last year an anomoly?). I'd like for him to care more about penalities. I like for his teams to be more prepared on the road. But as for seeking his resignation, he would have to have more than one bad year, and would have to be showing regression before I ever want to return to the days of Dooley, Jones, or Pruitt.

I can't name a single NCAA coach that I would rather have leading the Tennessee Volunteers than Coach Josh Heupel. He doesn't act like an idiot on the sidelines. He's always got his players back. He never berates them during the game. His players stay out of prison. He produces fantastic offenses year after year and has made Tennessee football more exciting to watch in twenty years.

Please volnation, let's not sink to the lows that we are seeing around the league.

Scenario is not different for every school.

Penn State should have likely held onto Franklin but then again if they continued to lose, I think it would have been inevitable. LSU was in a similar situation but eventually the coaches start to lose the team which Brian Kelly had happen to him at LSU (once fans and players turn on you, it is hard to survive or even have success).

Florida - Napier needed to go a year ago.

Florida State - Norvell likely needs to go.

Kentucky - I can see Stoops gone.

Arkansas - This one was iffy to me but it is hard to ignore that Notre Dame loss. They will likely just hire Petrino.

Oklahoma State - Terrible, needed new coach

UCLA - Terrible, needed new coach

Out of all listed, Penn State is the only one that made a glaring mistake with their firing. I think Brian Kelly could have hung on at LSU had the fans/team not quit on him. Their high expectations also hurt him.

I am curious to see if Auburn pulls the trigger on Freeze and if Oklahoma starts to consider firing Venables should they drop 2-3 more games. I do think Oklahoma should hold onto Venables.

Heupel isn't anywhere near the hot seat. I get people complaining about him and there are question marks but he is no where close to being fired. He is more likely to get an extension and pay increase than get fired.

Someone should start a thread " Where are they Now" showcasing all the coaches that were fawned over during our years of firing/hiring a new coach.. People wanted us to hire Sam Pittman, Chip Kelly, Mullet head Gundy, Kiffin, any former coach under Sabin etc.

Heupel is just the perfect coach for Tennessee and our culture. It is a good marriage. We are still having growing pains and bumps right now but things continue to play in our favor. Our recruiting is getting better each season and I think getting Florida and Georgia off our schedule (even if we get other hard teams) will break things up for us in a positive way. We have been cursed against both of those programs. We don't have either of them on our 2026 schedule.

I feel like Tennessee, as a program, took a big dip since the 1992 SEC East setup. Granted, Fulmer had us doing well the first chunk of that but we could NEVER beat Florida. Then Georgia got good on us and now that we have rebounded, we can't beat Georgia.

Imagine 2022 if Georgia wasn't on our schedule and we got them in Atlanta instead... I think it might have changed the trajectory of our entire season.

True, I think we need to change something up with our defense (either get new coaches or push the coaches to make major adjustments to what they are doing and how they are approaching the game).

There is a disturbing trend of defensive collapses by Tennessee from season 1 with Heupel (especially in big games). To get to that next step, we have to figure it out.

I think Heupel is starting to realize this and he seems to be getting frustrated about it.

We can talk about it in 2024 but it was rough against Georgia. The 2022 collapse against South Carolina was baffling, etc. Some of the WORSE defensive performances by Tennessee have come under Heupel (in may instances we are still winning despite the defensive struggles).

It's not just the NIL. You have to couple that with the ease and ability of players being able to transfer at the drop of a dime. NIL would be less than half effective if the new PORTAL rules were not in place. Gone are the days when a player commits to a team and actually had to honor that. Now, a kid doesn't play the first series of the first game of the year and he wants to transfer and is allowed to. I could provide you one really strong case of a kid who decommitted from his team after one year because his father wanted him to but, I'm not gonna bring that up.

NIL & PORTAL changed college football more than the use of helmets. Not saying they are bad mind you, but what a difference they have made to our one true sport that until now, was largely untarnished.

I think Stoops will make it one more year but i could see them canning him at the end of the season. Ky isn't going to get any better with him, which is good for us. Taking TX to the wire was good for him, until you realize TX isn't as good as they've been made out to be, and it's not all Manning's fault; the players around him are helping him.

Tennessee just needs a better defensive coaching staff. They need to lean how to tackle and not be out of position. We have the athletes, they just aren't doing what needs doing. Better to grab a guy and have him drag you 3 yards than to try and KO him with a big hit and he bounces away and goes for 30.

Yeah guys need to wrap up when tackling. Get some studs at LB from the portal. I really hope we get active in the portal this year. 12 FBS schools are open and it’s just October.

That means 12 big time rosters with talent ready to go!!!!

Not really a BK fan, but why in the world sould he even consider thking half of his buyout unless they
Tell him they can possibly fire him for cause.
I’m sure a lot of coaches could be fired for cause. Schools just don’t wanna put things out there I suppose. But I agree with you!

Either way Kiffin choses, he's going to get a monster contract.
Hate Kiffin, so hope he goes to Baton Rouge so we hardly ever have to see him and, deal with his brash ass in the East. Finebaum today rated these three schools in this order as to which is the best opportunity for a new coach:

LSU
Gators
Penn State

No way in hell would I negotiate my buyout if I’m Brian Kelly. They can kick rocks
I'm 99.9% sure he's negotiating the offset language and/or the duty to mitigate.

Potential win/win for both parties - LSU lowers the total buyout and BK can either double dip (if he wants to coach again) or not have to try and get another job if he wants to go sit on the couch and count his money.

We do not have the athletes when Carter, McCoy & Gibson are all not playing.

Correct. He has to have due diligence to go get another job to offset the buyout. Go ahead and get you guaranteed $30M instead of fighting over whether your buyout is $50M or $15M
