Has McCoy decided to shut it down for this season??

We heard that he tried to get himself ready to play against Arkansas, but pushed himself too hard and his knee started to swell. Well now its 2 weeks past Arkansas, halfway through the season and he's still MIA. Has he and his "team" decided to not even chance it and focus on the NFL draft?

I'd love to see him come back, but someone in his situation has several things to consider--like coming back too early and reinjuring himself, not being 100% and putting bad film out there for NFL scouts, etc. At this point in the season I'd be shocked to see him on the field in a Tennessee uniform again.

Dude, honestly… I don’t want him back. I want him to train for the league and get really healthy no reason right now to try to come back except for his team. He has his future to think about. Wish him the best and whether he comes back or not, thanks for his contribution while he was here.

It honestly wouldn’t benefit him at all. He’s mocked as a 1st rounder literally everywhere right now. I’m of the opinion his “camp” was never going to let him try to play this season.

I was just wondering if anything had been reported. There was a lot of chatter around him possibly returning for Arkansas. That never happened and there's been nothing since then. I just wonder if he suffered a setback or had a change of heart.

Nothing official. Just rumors and speculation about whether he’s going to play or shut it down for the draft.

Most NFL teams are probably going to steer away from him in the first round if he doesn't play at least some this year to show that he still has the necessary game speed to play at the next level. He could still go, but the NFL is very risk averse when it comes to drafting injured players in the first round. And ten months has kind of become the modern recovery time for ACL and recent reports that his knee didn't respond well to light workouts is going to hurt him.

I don't think that is his decision. I have heard the swelling has been the problem since September. I doubt we see him this year.

He was never returning for arky. Just hopeful thinking by fans. He has yet to go thru team drills and contact in practice.

That's not really accurate. We've seen plenty on instances of similar injuries and it not matter too much. Maybe he falls 10-15 spots. But he's still a first rounder.

Jeffrey Simmons tore his ACL while preparing for the draft. He was still a first round pick, even with teams knowing he would likely miss most of his rookie year and even if he did return for part of the season, he likely wouldn't even be super productive.

Jameson Williams was drafted 12th overall despite tearing his ACL in the NCG.

And unlike those cases, McCoy has the advantage of actually being fully healthy going into the Combine, where he can showcase his talents and skillsets. And will surely be ready to start mini-camp next fall.

Yep. I consider that ship to have sailed a few weeks ago. Bigger question is how healthy is Hood? Will he play? Rhetorical. This is UT. Of course he won't be available for OU. Defensive death by a thousand paper cuts.

I’ll be shocked if he is a 1st rounder if he doesn’t come back play a game or two. Too many busts in NFL for teams to blow a pick on a 1st rounder they are not sure can play.

Which does help us indirectly too. Every player we put in the league improves our image with recruits. Especially when they go in the first two rounds

The swelling after activity is a big problem and just indicates he’s not physically ready to get back into games…let him rehab the rest of this year and he can see how spring practice works for him…I’m not sure the cut off date for declaring for the draft but hopefully he can use spring practice to see if he’s ready. Or maybe the NIL money will be enough to get him back for another year…he needs to listen to his dr first and then his advisor
