LSU Cans Kelly

Is Josh a viable candidate for any of the openings? I know it's not what a lot of Vols want to even think about, but he's done a really good job here and yet gets significant abuse, at least by many people on this board.

If he goes anywhere else,I could see him going there. Its a better culture fit than being a northern guy in the bayou which never made any sense.

I could also see him calling it a day after the huge buyout and at his age.
He could simply join Slimebaum as a regular co-host or fill-in for when Pawl ain't there. He really does need to call it a career IMHO....

LSU has plenty of money and plenty of donors. They wouldn't make this move if they couldn't afford it.
“LSU’s sports programs collectively operated at a deficit in fiscal year 2024, according to a Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s report. It’s the third year in a row the athletic department finished the business year in the red.

The department is currently in a hiring freeze because of its budget constraints.”

there’s got to be something put in place where if you stink they can let you go with cause so you get nothing.

And yes something other than conduct detrimental to the program or university

Depends on the level of coach being hired. They might be able to avoid the huge buyout with a mid-major guy or an assistant stepping up, but if you're going after a P4 big fish that's already established and winning, you're likely not going to be able to dictate terms as easily.

Arch was a bust thanks to him
Arch was gonna bust with or without him. He’s not as good as the rest of the Mannings.

I get it. I love Peyton. You love Peyton. Everybody loves Peyton.

That doesn’t mean we gotta defend or stick up for poor Arch “let’s flex our muscles when we beat hapless G5 schools” Manning. The kid kind of sucks at throwing a football accurately.

And y’all still say we can’t fire Heupel because of a measly $37.5 million buyout. These buyouts are pennies now.
Why would we? Heupel had taken us where Kelly couldn’t take LSU. It would’ve been 2 playoffs in a 4 year span had the 13 team format been in place in 2022. And if we go by hypotheticals and Hooker doesn’t get hurt, we would have made a deep run that year.

We were still a Top 5 team that year. A top 10 team last year, and a Top 15 team right now.

Ohio State runs at a deficit too (so do a lot of major sports programs around the country). If you think for a second that the are having issues getting money into their football program then you aren't paying attention.

Hell, I think even around half of professional teams from every sport run at deficit. It's not especially uncommon.

The main reason why programs are starting run at a deficit is that a lot of the donations that used to go to the school (more specifically the sports programs), are now being funneled into NIL. But the money is still there and they have plenty of wealthy donors. Again, they would not make this move if they couldn't afford it.

I’ll be honest, this may be the perfect opportunity for someone like Dabo to get a fresh start. Just enough big school openings and not enough high level / homerun hires to be had. Especially if Auburn cans Freeze.

Also Matt Campbell has to cash in and move on from Iowa State.
His buyout is $60 mil LOL. Unless he agrees to lower it

I'm not Brian Kelly fan at all, but I just don't understand why you would fire him now. They are paying 54 million plus anyone better than Kelly is going to have a huge buyout to cover at their current employer. Who are they targeting? Indiana just locked up their coach. Majority of these schools are going to spend a ton of money to end up exactly where they are or worse...may even go bankrupt.
I think it'll be Jon Sumrall. If not at LSU, he's getting a SEC job.

You do realize another school would have to pay to hire him right?
No they wouldn’t. Coaches have two buyout numbers. One that protects them if they are fired and one that protects the school if the coach leaves. $60m buyout is if they fire Dabo. Not if he leaves.

See above. Like I said, they would. It's just not a lot

I said this might be a good year for Dabo to take another job and your response was “a school will have to pay $60m buyout” which was wrong and a lie. Once proven wrong, “yeah yeah like I said”
