All Heupel needs is the 2019 LSU defense

It wasn’t elite - but it could get off the field on third and long most of the time, and they won a title

We’ve managed to build back to one of our defenses from the early 2010s - can’t stop anybody with any level of consistency, and people look confused pre and post snap

Allowing a WR screen to go 74 for a TD is inexcusable. McMurray allowing the WR to get to the outside instead of forcing him inside was just undisciplined/unsmart football. The fact not a single player could chase it down at safety is crazy to me. And as bad as that was, we built a 3 TD lead only to commit another inexcusable play call. Everyone biting on the run (up 3TD's!!!) and not having cover 2 to take away the 40+ play is unreal. Like braindead. Their final drive was a good drive and that happens. I did not like taking the penalty on what would have been 3rd and 11 to allow them to get 12 yards anyway. The goalline play could've went to three open players for them.

We're lucky we have a great offense. We're going to need it in the second half and that is crazy to say against this pathetic offense from Kentucky.

Agreed

I’m not a fire the coach guy - but Banks has had 4+ years and he cost us in 2022 and may cost us this year

Best QB since Hooker and I think every game from here comes down to the wire because this defense sucks so bad
Scheme is questionable but I simply don’t see the talent especially on the back end. We are slow in the back 7. He is going to have to go big in the portal on defense in January. If Nico hadn’t of transferred we would have struggled to be a 500 team this year. Heupel needs to send him a big Christmas present.

It truly is baffling how we go from last years defense to this. I guess I just didn’t think we lost that many from last years team.

We don't seem to prioritize NIL dollars on defense. Which, IMO, is why we struggle on defense. Doesn't help that who I suspect is our highest paid defensive player has been hurt all season.

Thinking back to last year (the only time our defense has looked good) and I honestly think that maybe we looked that good because of the QB's we faced.

Oklahoma - Jackson Arnold
Arkansas - T. Green (we lost)
Florida - Mertz and I think we would've lost had he not gotten injured and forced freshman Lagway to play.
Bama - Milroe (stinks)
Kentucky - Vandagriff
MSST - Van Buren
UGA - Beck (lost)
Vandy - Pavia (This was the shocker honestly)

We do at edge and appear to be at LB this year. Transfers at CB.

The fact that our fundamentals on defense are so damn bad is why I think Banks needs to go. FFS, teach your guys how to tackle.

Yeah it’s bad. I don’t think they practice tackling much anymore because they are afraid of injuries. Hard to tackle well if you don’t practice it.
