They let them score so USC can get at least get the ball back. If he tackles him Bama can run the clock out and kick the winning field goal. Slim chance but better than zero.

Who’s to say they don’t score a td after that? They may not just play for the fg. They had options and the ability to control the clock, USCjr had none.

What’s not to get? He gets tackled and bama runs another play or let’s clock run all the way down to kick a fg. They let him score and they at least get the ball with a chance to do something.

I’d take a chance with my offense every time. Blocking a kick from chip shot range not so much.
