Paul Finebaum didn’t realize his dreams at UT. He didn’t become a critical part of the Vol Network. He didn’t find the work he wanted in his home state of Tennessee and wound up getting a job as a sports reporter at the Birmingham Post-Herald in Alabubba. He parlayed this into becoming a columnist, then got a radio gig in B’ham. That would have been the apex of his career if the fledgling SECN didn’t have an urgent need for content. There’s still a bitterness in him, and it’s clear that he has no love for his alma mater.

A friend of mine is a Kentucky grad. He called me today and asked if I would please talk trash to him about football. He pointed out that I’ve never done that but I roast our mutual friends who are bama and Georgia grads. Apparently he says that he knows that we don’t consider them rivals or a threat but it would be nice if I would pretend they are.

I said I talk **** to you non stop about basketball.
He said, exactly. Now pretend that you feel that hate for Kentucky football too.
