If YOU were a 2026 football recruit?????

$$$$ and babes are much higher on the list than a message board. We had a coach paying players in McDonald's bags and we had the whole hostess thing with another coach. None of our coaches were handing out message board website addresses.

People under 30 don’t even read, much less Boomer message boards. 🥴
75% of 4th graders don't know how to read. I don't understand this. When I was growing up, my parents certainly didn't treat it like the school's responsibility to teach me to read. I was reading at 4 and was always a few grades ahead in reading during school. It's 100% about effort. Man, just teach your kids to read! I taught mine to read because my dad taught me how to read. But I also have a brother who never read well and none of his kids are good readers. My niece is 12 and cannot read. I bought her books and encouraged her to read them all her life. I read to her too, but you know, it's got to be the parent. They are the only ones who can invest the time it takes. But today parents spend all their leisure time scrolling on social media. It's just maddening. I don't know where it's all headed but you've got an increasingly underqualified workforce being graduated from schools and even Ivy League Universities. It's nuts

With us being half way through the season and currently 5-2, you can read/see that there are some rumblings on Vol Nation. That is normal.

However, if you were a 2026 football recruit that has committed to Tennessee, would you be doing any research on what the temperature is around the football program in Knoxville? That's kind of rhetorical because OF COURSE YOU WOULD BE SCOURING THE INTERNET probably daily/hourly for information on perhaps the biggest decision of your life.

So, it probably makes sense that most if not all UT recruits find VolNation.com, as it is the premiere UT sports blog on the internet. And if this assumption holds true, what are these young men ages 17 and 18 thinking when the read the threads on this fine website?

Vicious Cycle: If we were to put on our collective caps and think of the #1 (and or top) reason/s that kids decommit from a school, my UTK educated guess would say that kids don't want to go to a school where there is friction between players, coaches and fans. Hell, I know I wouldn't, would you? So here is the conundrum we at UT continue to find ourselves in. The more games we lose, the more the fan base is agitated. The more the fanbase is agitated, the more likely elite players will opt to go to a school where there is a more positive vibe on campus and online. Let's face it, this happens every day now with student athletes as NIL and changes to the portal make it so easy to change your mind on a dime and go elsewhere.

What Vol Nation Fans Can Do: Think about everything you post from a 2026 recruits perspective, Of course we are free to write what we want and express our happiness and or displeasure however, could we, the fanbase, be part of the problem, not solution?

Go Vols!!
I don’t think that 17 or 18 years olds read football message boards. This is a relic of the past, to be honest. Furthermore, other teams have fans complaining when things go badly. By other teams, I mean every team. Also, you guys act like 17 year olds don’t have eyes and can’t tell something is bad unless they hear someone say it is. These are the people who say someone like T Mac was ass because he didn’t win in the playoffs. They do not view things like the old folks with orange-tinted cataracts who insist everything UT is great.

why do some of our fans think that we are the only fanbase that argues amongst ourselves and blame coaches/admins? it is more exhausting than the "Lunatic Fringe" they are always harping on

It’s different today in regards to young men coming out of high school to college sports . IT’s ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! No school royalty at all. Just MeMeMe.

Please don’t claim a UTK degree and misspell vicious. I’m not trying to be a dick. Just fix it.
Why do people want to act like having a college education is supposed to make you impervious to mistakes? Christ, you earn a degree when you graduate, not divine powers. Surgeons go to school for 8 years, plus a 5 year residency and they still manage to kill people on the operating table. I think we can forgive a misspelled word on a chat forum.

There’s nothing to forgive. I’m not mad about it. Just giving him ****. And his response was perfect. Have a great weekend. GBO!

That's not wrong. I just give people grace. Everyone deserves grace. We're all on the same journey. It's just that we are all at different stages of that journey. I don't see much perspective on sports inside most fan bases. There's actually very little of it. And I get the design is to divide us all into tribes. So I don't buy that garbage either. I don't hate anyone for any reason, much less because they root for a sports team I don't like.
If your life revolves in any way around the performance of a college sports team, you have lost perspective. (Yes, I’m pointing the finger at myself) There’s little question that all of us here will have our next week’s mood impacted by tonight’s outcome.

I could honestly give two ***** about what some 17 year old recruit may or may not see online. It’s not as if these things are isolated to Tennessee fans. It’s up to those overpaid gym teachers to go blow smoke and bags of cash to convince them to play here. We’ll blindly cheer for this nonsense as if it makes a damn bit of difference in the greater scheme of things.

You don't think Obama,LSU, Florida,UGA, Kentucky,Texas have crazy fans and say crazy stuff on their sites?
We see the "what the other message boards are saying" replies. I bet Penn State was very laid back about 3 straight losses and a loss to Northwestern

You have negative fans on all sites. Even Saban was being criticized before he retired.
No friggin way! You are crazy, out of your mind, psychotic as heck - you need help! We don't have any negative fans on here? Maybe bat sh*t crazy though...!!! And btw, no way other sites can compare to our fans.....

You must not be intelligent enough to read. I never said we do not have negative fans. Learn to read before responding and you would not look so stupid. I said all teams have negative fans.

Agreed - just having fun. However, those teams like GA and Bama tend to have less cuz they win so often.

Honest question! If you were the coach of a football program that has one of, if not the largest online forums, and super large crazed fanbase, would you consider warning your recruits to take the fans perspective with a grain of salt?

Plus, as a recruiter, the job is to sell the university, not the opinion of the fans. And I’m sure that the staff keeps any friction they have with fans or each other, behind closed doors.
I’d pull up the thread where people are discussing Heupels body and why that makes him a bad coach then leave it at that. No greater display of active acute negligence of knowledge than that thread right there.

They would see that, understand the lack of intelligence, and move on.
